E really just uses his when he's sleepy. I usually take one in the diaper bag just in case he's fussy and needs to cuddle. If we're somewhere and he's tired I'll give it to him when I put him in the carseat on our way home and it keeps him happy until I can put him down :)

Hmm I guess I'll leave it at home then...my main concern would be other kids fighting over it...I wouldn't feel right about bringing something into a social situation that is ONLY for LO's hands. Thanks for the info!

We brought it around with us everywhere in case he needed it to sleep or something, but I'd keep it hidden in the diaper bag. Now we're very lax about it (he can take it if he wants to) now that he's a little less attached to it. But we have a bear that we don't have a backup of (we have 3 backup loveys!) so he stays at home 24/7. Poor bear never sees any action.

LMW's lovey comes with us everywhere.

ds only has his security blanket in his pnp or his crib. he has his travel sleep sheep and his monkey wubbanub that travel with him when we're out. but he's not particularly attached to either.

@hilsy85: At daycare? They're pretty good about only giving it to her at nap time so the kids usually leave it alone. But once I pick her up, she has to have it, and she doesn't let go of it until she goes back to daycare lol

Right now we keep ours in the crib, she usually just needs it for sleepy time, it might change when she's older but so far she doesn't seem to mind.

Although, I do keep a spare in the diaper bag in case we have an inpromptu nap in the car and I will give it to her. She's not overly attached to hers unless she's sleeping then she doesn't let it go. (A&A lovey)

Her lovey (stuffed bunny) stays in the crib. She does have 2 substitutes that she has in the car (soft baby doll and curious george)...they stay in the car but we are more flexible with those and she can take them with her when we're out and about. I like having them in the car bc it's an easy way to get her excited about getting into her carseat

@Honeybee: yeah we have 3 of them, and they're easy to find if by chance we lost all of them!

@scg00387: I agree that it's a good sleep cue--as soon as he gets his hands on it, he rubs his face in it and cuddles with it (so cute!). Neither of the facilities allow food to be brought into the classes unfortunately!

We don't let LO have his blankie outside of his crib/sleep routine unless he is sick. I think it stays as a stronger sleep cue, he is happy to "see" it, keeps it from being lost, etc. What about taking a snack instead?

I took my blankie everywhere until I was 5. :) My parents tried to take it away but I was too stubborn, so they gave in.

Right now I don't let my kids take their blankies out of the house, both because of germs and because I don't want them to get lost. But the kids' blankies are one of a kind items made by their aunt and they are twin sized, so very long. If they had more portable/more easily replaced loveys , I might consider allowing the loveys outside the house.

@hilsy85: she's 27 months old and wants to take it everywhere--church, starbucks, to the pool/splash pad.. and we let her (otherwise she has a cow) :P
.
If you think it'll help soothe him, I would take it out if I were you. I would make sure it doesn't get passed around though.

DD takes her little bunny out whereever she goes. If other kids touch it or it spends too much time on the ground I'll throw it in the wash when we get home.

If your LO has a lovey, do they take it around with them, or does it stay in the crib? LO has an angel dear lovey that he really likes, but I've been hesitant to bring it out with us, even though I think it might be helpful when he's getting fussy/upset during music class or during playdates. But I don't know if that's appropriate...to bring out an object that I wouldn't want another child touching/playing with (we often bring toys, but I don't care if other kids play with them). What do you do?
