What about asking open- ended questions? "You don't seem to be feeking well. Where does it hurt?" Then, if your LO indicates their mouth or teeth you will know you didn't steer the answer.

No, but they had all their teeth SO early-- full teeth and first molars by their first birthdays, 2 yr molars before 18 mos! So instead of explaining it, they were just messes getting tons of teeth in a short time span, as babies.

E really suffered with teething. Every tooth was a long drawn out process. Of course, I gave E a name for this pain ("do your teeth hurt? Do you need medicine?") and the result is that she now claims her teeth hurt and she needs medicine all.the.time.

@Foodnerd81: Interesting! LO can be a pretty unreliable source because she will answer "yes" to everything! I don't really think her teeth are bothering her but she has a cold now so we have been doing Motrin here and there.

I believe teething does bother my LO, thigh obviously no way to say for sure. But when she would have periods where she was waking up more at night crying and just seemed to be in pain, sometimes I would ask her if her if her mouth hurt and she would say yes. Then it got to the point where she would tell me her mouth hurt and that she needs medicine. Now who knows- she likes the taste of Motrin and maybe just wanted it, but she would do this for a few days to a week in a row then stop, so I'm inclined to think she was telling us the truth.

@autumnlove: It has never been an issue for her so I'm pretty sure this is just the terrible twos :/ But I guess I don't want to count it out just because until this point it's never bothered her.

No, they have never mentioned it. Teething has never been an issue for my toddlers so I hope LO 3 is the same way.

LO (26 months) has been a piece of work lately. She has made some weird comments about hearing drums (throbbing?) and also pulled on her ears but no ear infection.

The doctor suggested it's teething. She is getting all four canines but I don't really "believe" in teething as a prolonged, super painful process based on our experience to date and this article which has some legit research: http://www.slate.com/articles/life/the_kids/2015/05/teething_symptoms_in_babies_are_not_as_bad_as_parents_think.html

But, you know, I am tempted to try some Motrin on her just to see if it helps improve her mood. Tomorrow I am going to try asking her about her teeth and gently touch them to see how she reacts. I don't know how reliable of a source she is though!
