This is still a struggle for us! D is 16m and we do it routinely when he has a cold. I just sit on the floor and use my arms/legs to pin him down and continuously sing songs (the ants go marching, old McDonald, wheels on the bus, etc). I wish he would watch tv but he won't!

Good luck, I hope his recovery is very smooth.

Sorry you have to go through that :( nebulizer a are the worst!

We basically let DD watch TV the whole time we did it. She only minded after we had to use it more than a few days and then she was just tired of doing it

RSV is the worst:( LO got a bad case at 5 months and spent a week in the PICU. Our doctor always says screen time doesn't count when you're doing the nebulizer. We haven't needed it yet this winter - knock on wood - but we used it 2x day last winter as a preventive measure and he got to know all the songs from Frozen very well on YouTube.

We've had to use it a few times. When he was that little the paci attachment was a lifesaver. We'd distract him with books or pictures or videos. We just finished another round with the nebulizer and as you can see, he couldn't care less.

Cartoons!!
My LO had RSV when he was young, it was awful!
He uses a nebulizer now, we have to put on cartoons and he'll tolerate it.

We used a lot of Frozen : ) and he dealt with it extremely well. It got to be pretty routine. And we definitely did not wake him for it. (He's two though.)

I hope he recovers quickly! RSV is scary. : (

@Danizaur: well our LO wasn't sleeping through the night at that time, so we'd generally feed her, change her diaper, get her to sleep...and then nebulize her.

We just got ours on Friday. To say he has been unimpressed is truly an understatement. He is 24 months so definitely big enough to scream, thrash, convulse and push us away. It is a 2 person job, for sure! Like Anagram said, we do our best to hover it over his face per our peds suggestion. I wouldn't worry too much about whether or not he is getting enough of the medicine, I think as long as you are holding it near his face that's the goal. Because it is a mist he is probably getting more than you think!

Good luck to you!

ETA: Our ped said to use it every 4 hours when we hear wheezing but to NOT wake him up to give him a treatment! Sleeping babies should never be woken, lol.

@Anagram: Thanks!! Did you have to wake up in the middle of the night and do it? We asked our nurse as she was giving the instructions to do it every 4-6 hours if we should let him sleep normally at night and she said yes. Right now he's usually STTN though.

@Danizaur: our LO had RSV last winter, so she was a bit younger--I think she was 7 months. But our doctor said the mask didn't have to be on her face, just very close to it (so we would hover it over her face). Overnight, we would do it while she was sleeping--surprisingly, the super loud machine didn't wake her. And we would do it during naps where we could. The rest of the time, we would try to get her to look at pictures on our phone or something to keep her still.

Good luck!!

T has RSV. :(
Our doctor sent us home with a nebulizer because he is wheezing. We just gave him his first treatment and he surprisingly didn't freak out like I thought he would, although he got bored with having us shove that mask in his face and was trying to squirm away and push the mask away. Any tips on how to get a 10 month old to sit still? I feel like we could have done better on getting as much of the mist to him as possible. I'm afraid he won't get enough of the medicine if we have to keep repositioning him and the mask.
