Charlie loves her pacifier, but doesn't have to have it. It works to calm her down during a hissy fit. I didn't read any bf-ing info before she was born, since I planned to formula feed. Then bf-ing worked out, and I hadn't prepared at all. I gave her a pacifier right off the bat (and bottles too) without knowing about nipple confusion. Luckily, she never had any issues. But I'll definitely keep that in mind for the future!

Max never took to a pacifier. He found his thumb early on and is still pretty tied to it, especially when he's tired. I'm not worried about it yet (he's 13 months) but I hope it's not too hard to break him of the habit later on.

My LO is turning into a thumbsucker/fist eater. She hates (or doesn't understand) the pacifier.

Jack didn't start using a pacifier until he was 7-8 months old. He could just never keep it in but now he loves it. We only let him have it during naps and at night. I am planning to break the habit before he is 2.

Rj loved his pacifier for about the first 6 or 7 months. We had one in every nook and cranny. He was always very soothed by sucking. Once he found his fingers, he didn't need the pacifier anymore, and he still sucks on his first two fingers for self-soothing. He also has a lovey and automatically starts to self-soothe with sucking as soon as he grabs it or any other familiar stuffed animal.

My daughter never liked them. She always spit them out and wanted nothing to do with them. It really surprised me since every other baby I've spent time with loved them! Like Mrs. Bee said, it was one less habit to break, so it worked out fine, but there were definitely a few times I wished she would take one just to help calm her without nursing when she was little.

charlie was never into pacifiers, and he's never had a lovey either. i guess it's a good thing... just one thing more habit that we didn't have to break.

now if we could only break his bottle addiction....

My little guy is 6 weeks old and we still use the "soothie" type that you get from the hospital. We don't typically use it to get him to sleep because we don't want him to become dependent on it to sleep. I use it to calm him down before a feeding, or after when he thinks he needs more food (he doesn't! I see a LC and he is getting plenty of food, my supply is very high) or his father uses it when I'm not readily available to feed him. I have no problem using a pacifier, they won't go to college with them! If he found his thumb, though, that'd be awesome! My niece found her thumb very early and it was the best for everyone -- she is four now and doesn't use it unless she is scared, so again they don't go to college sucking their thumbs!

My son really isn't into them unless he's too tired to notice, he's actually more of a thumbsucker. Does your LO use a pacifier, though? If not, is there anything they do like to use that soothes or comforts them? Or are you just not a pacifier user or fan?
