Super wasteful. I've started to catch chunk on the way down and putting them back on my plate to save :silly: . My dogs do clean-up duty after LO eats, so they are loving life.

He is wasteful in that he will "ask" for something (more like point) and so I'll make it and then he yells NO and refuses to eat. SO frustrating!!!! We throw out so much fruit, waffles, toast, etc due to this.

She is a vacuum. So not only does she not waste food, she eats mine and whoever elses is on the table. And then moves on to straw wrappers and salt and pepper packets. She's crazy.

Not really. My 10 month old loves food! I give small portions and now that she is into throwing she gets three strikes and then meal time is over!

DS is 7 months and we are working on solids, he was doing well but once he started teething he's lost interest. I still offer but usually he throws finger food on the floor (at least the dogs eat it) and he flat out rejects purees. Even though it is only a few tablespoons or bits of food it still bugs me that it goes to waste, eespecially if I've mixed in breastmilk!

@regberadaisy: And she always wants the fancy or expensive stuff that i wouldn't normally share, LOL! Fancy chocolate truffles I got for Christmas? That a toddler surely won't appreciate? She zeroes in on them.

She actually doesn't because we don't give her much to begin with. I will have a plate for her and i will parcel it out as she eats it. And i will saran wrap her plate up and offer it the next day for lunch. If she doesn't eat it for dinner, it doesn't mean she'll refuse it the next day. Sometimes she just isn't hungry.

A lot of times, she'll eat stuff that we don't get "for her". I get myself a pear and she shows interest, so I give her chunks of it. And next thing you know, she's eaten the whole thing and I have to go get myself a second pear :)

It really just depends on the day and the meal with us. Sometimes she eats.more than I can eat and sometimes she won't touch anything. It's a huge peeve of mine when she wastes though so I do offer a small plate at first to assess.

@Bao: out of curiosity do use divided plates? I stopped a few months after solids and I found she eats better when everything is on one plate, undivided. I feel like the compartments make picking easier!

She goes through spurts, she will take a bite of a banana and say I'm done and go to throw it away, and I'm like absolutely not, you eat that banana! Same thing with yogurt/applesauce/ect. I try to save what I can, but some things just don't keep.

@regberadaisy: for example I give my toddler 4-5 green beans, 5 bite size pieces of chicken and a small spoonful of rice. Which is definitely way less than what DH and I eat ;)

Not really. Wasting food drives me crazy! I always gave DD 1 just a tiny bit at the beginning and if she ate it all then I offered more. I feel like that way is less overwhelming? With her being older now I have a good idea of how much she can eat. If she wants more she always asks. If she doesn't finish something I always either eat it myself or wrap it up for later. Sometimes she doesn't feel like it now but later or even tomorrow she might eat it.

Not saying "you" do it but parents wasting food is a huge pet peeve if mine! BIL would pile his daughters plate with more food than what I put on DH's or my plate. He ends up throwing 75% of it out 85% of the time. And it's usually been untouched by the girls! It drives me crazy how wasteful he is.

If your older daughter isn't finishing her plate maybe it's time to offer less?

I feel like both of my girls waste a lot of food. My toddler won't eat what I put in front of her 80% of the time and my 9 month old drops a good portion of her food on the floor, in her high chair or down in her bib which then gets soaked with water she spits out. I could at least save my toddlers food and have her try later but I feel like if she's not eating it the first time she won't if I offer it later.

Does your LO waste a lot of food? Any tips for controlling how much is wasted? I already try and give small portions!
