Our family doctor has us come back for ear infections to make sure they are all gone. For other ailments it's only if they get worse

Usually it's no need to come back unless it's not getting better or we have concerns. This winter she had back to back ear infections, like a month and a half later, so they asked us to come back to make sure the second antibiotic really cleared it up. There was still fluid in her ears, but not infected, so my pediatrician is going to peek in her ears again at the baby's next well visit (so no extra copayment :) )

Not for ear infections, but we always have a follow up after going to the ER...

We've never had a follow up except they mention if they don't get better or seem worse with certain issues to call back.

I wish we did have follow ups, especially when younger than one because it seemed like one ear infection after another.

We have not needed to do follow ups for ear infections. However, my LO's infections have always been minor.

With ear infection they asked us to come back to make sure it's gone. With more minor things usually it's with our own discretion.

We always have a follow up for ears. Even now that he has tubes if he gets an infection they call in an antibiotic but then want to see us in ten days to see if it has cleared. The co-pays do add up!

With ear infections it is customary to recheck in 2-4 weeks after antibiotics to make sure it cleared. The ED will also always tell you to follow up with PCP to cover their butts. :)

Yes - with all of LOs ear infections - they have wanted us to come back a week to 10 days later to see if it has cleared. Every time we have to pay a copay and it really adds up! When I have had a follow up appointment with my PCP - he didn't charge me. I am wondering what the norm is too.

Say your LO had an ear infection, and they were put on meds, would your doctor ask that you come back for a follow up?

Typically he will just say if she gets worse or isn't seeming to get better, or we have any concerns, to bring her back...but it's not really required if we don't have concerns. If it's an ongoing issue, or something that needs time to be checked again then we have follow ups. We took LO to urgent care last week and they said to follow up with her primary doctor in a week, but she is perfectly fine so it seems silly. Not sure if it's just what they tell everyone...but I'll probably just take her anyway, since they told me too it just really adds up!
