Surprisingly, yes. lol. My name is simple and common and somehow people manage to misspell and mispronounce it constantly.

My maiden name and my first name are two of the most common American names in existence. When people can read it, they don't have trouble pronouncing it, unless Spanish is their first language, and then they have trouble pronouncing the A sound. But my married last name...sigh. Just sigh. It looks easy enough in English, except its not an English name, so it's pronounced totally different than it looks on paper.

Kind of like a Vietnamese student I had once whose first name was "Duong". Looks like "Doo-ong" in English, right? Except in Vietnamese, it's close to the sound of "yoong". There's no way an English speaker will get that right. And that's how it is with my new last name. I work in a school. so my name is printed all over the place, so I just answer to everything, how it looks like its pronounced, how it's actually pronounced, and my maiden name, all three.

My name is super straightforward and easy, but there is an alternate spelling that is common, so sometimes I get asked about that. DH has the most difficult name to pronounce... Some of our friends still say his name wrong! Part of the problem is that we don't have one of the sounds in English so it's hard for people. When I need to tell people on the phone what his name is I always say "let me spell it for you..."

Yes. My first name is Andrea and there are several ways to pronounce it so whenever I meet someone I have to direct them, and they usually forget. But I'm used to it, so no biggie.

I changed my last name when I got married--it's a simple, short name, but not very common, so I always have to spell it out. People often spell it wrong even when I do that. And, it always gets pronounced wrong.

Yes! My name isn't hard to pronounce at all but people get really confused when they see it. It's not a super common name but it's not off the wall either. Most people spell it with a -y ending but mine ends in -ee. I guess that throws people off.

yep, my last name. it's four letters and one syllable. pretty straightforward, but people mispronounce it half the time, and hesitate in pronouncing the other half of the time. really?? at least when it's mispronounced, it's always the same mispronunciation.

My first name is one letter from a males first name, so every first day of school, or first time someone sees my name I am the male version of the name, only in university 2nd year spanish (elective, lol) class did the prof get it right the first day, first time in my life!

My maiden name was easy, and I thought married name was too, but it is so funny when people don't know it and try to say it, they say the "i" like and "l" and it's funny.

I've never had a problem with my first name, but my last name is always pronounced incorrectly. I generally don't correct people though because I don't really care enough. When I introduce myself, I give people the correct pronunciation, but if they just see my name in writing, they tend to pronounce it wrong. Oh well!

My name is very straight forward, but I still have people say the wrong name some times-- most of the time from people who are hispanic or African American, so I think they might use the other name for a girl more often, where I've mostly heard the wrong name for a boy. My maiden name got mispronounced all the time-- there are two common ways to say it, and even though it's quite common and I've never met someone who uses the hard E sound in it, there is a university with the name that pronounces is that way. My new last name is an actual work and impossible to mispronounce when you see it.

Absolutely. It is four letters and one syllable, but people pronounce it wrong regularly and almost always spell it wrong. I don't really care, though. Unless it's someone I will interact with a lot, I rarely correct them (like if the nurse pronounces it wrong at the doctor's office I just let it go).
