My nanny always let me know when she left and got home. This was when A was an infant. Now, my SAHM sitter does the same without me having asked. She doesn't always say when they get back but it doesn't bother me much. It gives me peace of mind to know where she is and when. It's important for me to have a general idea in case something ever happened so I know where to start looking!

@Anagram: yes, that's exactly it! we always talk in the morning and she'll say what she's thinking of doing and usually texts me "we're off to X" but today she didn't and it's really not a big deal but it got me wondering. I'm type A so like to know the plan before she leaves!

@winniebee: I was wondering the same thing, and I think it's fine and I'll ask my nanny to do the same if they go further than our immediate neighborhood park--again, just a heads up.

I mean, if something (god forbid) ever happened at a public place like the library and I didn't even know my kiddos were there....ugh.

I WAHM and our nanny always texts me before they head out, even just to the neighborhood park. Not for permission -- just a heads-up. I usually have an idea of what she's planning because I ask in the mornings if she has any outings planned, and let her know when/if I need the car.

I was a nanny for a WAHM and I always did this as a courtesy. I just thought it'd be concerning if she came out of her office to find us gone and didn't know where we were. If we were just going outside to walk/play, I didn't necessarily do this. But for trips in the car I definitely did.

Our nanny has implicit permission to go around the neighborhood, to the park and the mall (there is an indoor playground there.) If they plan on going somewhere else, she lets me know before hand to make sure I'm ok with it.

Our nanny has been with us for 18 months and still sends me a text whenever they leave the house and when they get home. Totally reasonable to want to know where your kid is at all times.

@winniebee: I think that's totally fine! I mean, if DH were around and I was leaving I tell him where I'm going...not the same, but you know what I mean! It's great that you allow her to go out and about. I could with most of my families I nannied but 2 and it was awful...

Now that R is a toddler  I've encouraged our nanny to get him out of the house for an outing every day. In the nice weather, I'm fine with them just playing outside or going to the park. But now, it's winter so all of their options involve a car ride (museum, library, kids gym, play space). I WAH and we communicate frequently about his needs, etc. I'm wondering if it's too much to have her tell me where they're going before they go....like "hey, we're off to the library!" just so I know where they are. Not as if she's asking permission, but just giving me a heads up. He's still on 2 naps so their time out of the house is limited anyways.

What do you think? How does your nanny approach outings?
