That was two years ago I think. I get one every year and will continue to do so, paying out of pocket because OHIP only covers then every 3 years if you are healthy and have had normal ones. The doctor did say she felt it was a step backwards in women's health and cancer diagnosis/prevention and I agree. My family and I have had abnormal paps in our life so I would be uncomfortable waiting that long. However, even if I had never had an abnormal one I would still ask for one every year. I've never had an abnormal one and I'm hoping to be pregnant again in another year or so. It actually increases the risk of harms from paps that were abnormal but that your body was going to clear anyway without intervention. Plus it costs the health care system more money without adding more value (i.e., doesn't save any more lives). </p> <p>Note that the new guidelines are age dependent and dependent on your past history.
