@sloaneandpuffy: omg that happened ALL the time with Wagon Jr. He'd LOVE something one day, so I'd go all crazy and make it again the next day, and he wouldn't even touch it and have a major meltdown over it. So horrible.

My son is just 17 months but we have the same problem. He does like veggies in soup for some reason so I try to take advantage of that.

Recently he ate a bunch of grape tomatoes out of my salad so I got all excited and bought a package. Now he refuses to eat them. :( That's pretty much how it goes for us!!

@mrs. wagon: I think that is common! Sometimes the LO will eat that and sometimes not. My nephew has NEVER put a drop of it into his mouth and he is 5!! Kids are weird!!

@Andrea: I have!!! He's just starting to enjoy chicken nuggets on a regular basis (wont' eat them if they're in his lunch at daycare, go figure!) so I'm definitely going to try these next!!!

@mrs. wagon: oh! have you ever seen those spinach and broccoli nuggets? They have them in the vegetarian section of our supermarket. I buy those sometimes and the LO loves them. Since he likes chicken nuggets, maybe he will eat those?

@purrpletulips: these kinds of ideas are the ones I'm definitely looking for right now... I think he will be old enough to start these kinds of negotiations SOON! Only recently (like the past week) have we been able to get him to stop spitting out right before he does it, so this has given me a glimmer of hope!!! :D the "no thank you bite" is awesome, can't wait to try it!

@MrsWagon-a friend of mine said that when her daughter was younger she always made her take at least one bite of everything on her plate before she could say nope she didn't want to eat it (they labeled this the "no thank you" bite). You could try that but he might be a little young still for the concept.

you're not alone! I have to mix/hide it in my 4 yo's food. of course she ate veggies as an infant and young toddler, but at 2-3 yo, started getting picky. we are working on it though. I read on babycenter, from moms of 5 and 6 year olds who said they were able to increase veggie intake at those ages too, so I'm not worried... Seems there's plenty of time to work on it.

I keep telling DD that if she tries something at least 10 times, she'll end up liking it. It's like a game we have going on counting how many times she's tried something. Problem is, sometimes she out right refuses, so that's why I just mix/hide the veggies at this point.. but we are making some progress with her trying "new things" and I think that's the important part.

Our son was the same. He used to eat most veggies we gave him when he was younger but now have been a lot more picky. Currently, he'll tolerate (and this is not all the time) spinach, broccoli, cauliflower, carrots. My daughter who's 10 months now will eat everything we give her (more so than even when her brother was that age) - hope it stays that way.

@artbee: I am the same way. I eat a lot more veggies now, trying to get him to eat them too!

@purrpletulips: thanks!! Yes, we are just trying as hard as we can to at least present a veggie with each meal. It's tough now that he's older because we can't just shove it in his mouth anymore, but hopefully the constant exposure and encouraging will help. I am not sure what else to do!

Sorry, my LO loves just about every veggie except lima beans (hated them as a baby too). However, there is very little she won't eat (I posted on another thread about her love of anchovies, sardines, and pickled herring).

Just keep trying is the only advice I can give.

LO isn't older yet, but I wouldn't doubt if she doesn't eat them. I don't! I also use the excuse of garden pasta to get my own veggies. But I do feed her all sorts of things that I don't eat because I don't want her to be picky like I am.

LO does love her veggies. She will shove tons of green beans, edamame and zucchini into her mouth. I cook with other veggies so she gets more variety but those are the ones that she likes the best on their own -- just plain and steamed.

When Wagon Jr. first started on table foods, he ate green beans and sweet potatoes every day. We had just started in on a few other veggies (carrots, cauliflower, broccoli) when he started on his picky phase and the number of foods he would eat dwindled down to 6!! He would just immediately spit out most foods except for eggs, pasta, ham, cheese, applesauce, and yogurt. He wouldn't even eat bread (!!) or his beloved bananas. That lasted for a good few months (torturous!!!), and only now is he starting to eat other foods, both foods that he USED to love and brand new foods. We can now sometimes convince him to NOT spit something out and just keep chewing, but it's still a constant battle, especially with vegetables.

Most of the parents of older kids that I speak with just explain that their kids don't eat veggies, or they will only eat one (usually broccoli).

I'm pretty sure he's getting enough nutrition from his pasta (we mix whole grain pasta with garden delight, which has ground up veggies in it) and his daily vitamins, but of course we want him to start eating veggies regularly again!

Does your older (older than 2) toddler eat veggies on a regular basis?? Please tell me I'm not alone!!!
