We have this problem in my mixed age classroom at school. Six is plenty old to understand that "fair does not mean the same". They don't like hearing it, but after some examples and discussion they understand it.

I used to do this, my poor mom. I gave her so much grief.

DS1 hasn't learned that phrase yet, but he does whine when he wants something and I have to tend to his 1-year old brother instead. Things like being picked up. I can't hold 2 kiddos at once (especially when one is 4), so I explain that to him and that his brother is smaller and can't walk on his own.

I only have an infant so no suggestions, but I remember me and my brothers saying this a lot when we were little. My parent's common response was, "life isn't fair!" haha.

A little, but she's not really the jealous type. My younger one is actually the jealous one and just learned about "no fair!".

I help my daughter brush her teeth, since she's only 4... and my 6-year-old son objects that he has to brush his teeth "all by myself!" He's big on things being "fair" and doesn't understand that sometimes his little sister needs a little extra help. Working on it...
