Usually if it's just the two of them they play outside our house (swim or go for walks) very rarely do they "go anywhere" together just the two of them. But really we usually do things the 3 of us, I don't' normally take her on "big" outings just me unless we are meeting someone else or going shopping. We are social people so we like to interact with other families or together as a family.

@corduroy: so, how did it go? Did they have fun? My husband was hesitant to take our son out partially because he was nervous but also because the one time he did, LO was only 4 months old and not doing much yet. When I encouraged (aka forced) him to try again at 11 months, he was surprised at how fun it was.

It's reversed in my house. DH is home during the day and has brought J our with him since he was 7 weeks when I went back to work full time. Sometimes on the weekends I get overwhelmed trying to get errands done with J and DH is like, "uh, I do that stuff every day".

Never. I literally don't think he's taken him out one time without me. That being said, we both work full time, so the only time we have all together is the weekends anyway, so we want to spend them together.

My husband stayed. Home with our LO from 7-12 months. And he NEVER LEFT THE HOUSE ONCE. It made me insane (but I was at work, so whatever). Then once we were both back at work, one day I finally said (while he was on his way to Home Depot) great! Take your little buddy with you, I'll get her jacket.

She's 2 1/2 now and I still have to a ask him to take her, but he doesn't hesitate now.

Congrats on your victory today!

My DH hasn't taken LO anywhere alone yet but he's only 3 months old. I can see it being something he has to practice a bunch to get comfortable.

I guess I am lucky because DH has never had a problem taking DS, at least for short walks or trips to the store or park. He took him on a walk to CVS probably within the first couple weeks so I could rest. He has not taken DS2 anywhere without me and even with DS1 I think the longest was like an hour or so? But really the only opportunity is on the weekend and we usually try to do everything together as much as possible.

He has, though not that often, but that's because he works long hours during the week and weekends are our only family time, so we try to spend it all together. However, if I ever needed a break, or he wanted to take her out on a date, he most certainly would. Our nanny is having a medical procedure tomorrow and we couldn't find any other child care, so DH is going to take off to watch LO. He's so excited and has the entire day planned, it's so cute!

Yes, they've been to the hardware store countless times! DH has kept him home from daycare a few times to spend time with him, too. But we're homebodies, so that doesn't necessarily mean he takes him out on play dates.

My husband is the opposite and would rather take LO out of the house instead of staying home with him. They go to swim lessons on their own, go to the park, do a lot of Target trips, grocery shop on Sundays when I'm working, etc.

Yes he takes her out often, but only for an hour or two at a time. He takes her to the park and stays until she starts asking for me, which is usually a couple of hours. I'm find with that, I know her tolerance for being away from me will grow to longer periods of time as she gets older.

Never, but then again, DH doesn't really go anywhere. He goes to work then comes home. On the weekends, he does yard work and tinkers around the house. I've suggested he take LO to Home Depot a few times but no dice.

Yes; all the time. It doesn't have to be a "thing" or an activity - he takes her to the grocery store or to run quick errands or a walk around the block. The only way you get comfortable doing something is by doing it. Sure, LO might sometimes fuss or meltdown, but who cares? Happens to everyone!
