All from different doctors. Second time she had had it for a week already and not getting better so they gave them. And this is at two different pediatrician offices.</p> <p>For DD she had an ear infection at 2 and 4 months. I think it's pretty common to prescribe for babies under 6 months.</p> <p>For DS we actually caught it pretty early but she said because it was early and he was already in so much pain she'd like to go ahead and prescribe it. Of those two times once we didn't do them and it resolved. The third time was for pneumonia about a week ago. He suggests lots of saline spray and to wait it out.</p> <p>Our 4 month old had 2 terrible pneumococcal ear infections that were built up with pus. They were horrible! Instead of antibiotics he performed a tampenocentesis (twice) which drained all of the pus out of her ears. They drained for weeks, but she didn't need any abx.</p> <p>When my 3 year old went to the ER for pneumonia and RSV, the ER doctor saw she had an ear infection and also didn't prescribe antibiotics for it. She said just wait and see. It was nice that her views lined up with our doc's (and ours). I've never had to go in for an infection, but she's told me that before. We've caught it early enough that he told us to do ibuprofen with a nasal spray for a few days but if it didn't get better to take antibiotics. We didn't end up needing them. DD is 6 so I felt fine with her taking the antibiotics. Her dr. could clearly identify that it was a middle ear infection and I know that if he's suggesting treatment its only because its truly necessary.
