We love our ped so far. (We're only 1 month in...) We chose her specifically because of a reference from a friend that said how supportive and how flexible she was.

@MamaMoose: Thats awesome! It's good to know you're supported - and especially by someone who knows what he's talking about!

I adore our ped. He is a dad to preschool age twins, and his advice comes from both his experience as a medical professional and a dad. In the early days when we were so new and so frazzled by all of DS's birth injury issues, he was a rock for us. I respect his opinion so much!

I love our doc! Through all of LOs puking, stomach/esophogaus issues she was so supportive and even though she was getting sick so much she would praise us on her social development (even if her weight was lacking.) It made me feel like I was doing something right!

That's awesome!!! It's so nice to hear reassuring things from a medical expert to validate your parenting so you can tell others to shove it! ha!

That's great!

I  my pediatrician! I have from day one. I really respect him and feel like he respects us. Even when we disagree, I like the way he talks to us and how well he explains things to us.

@prettylizy: I'm hopeful that perhaps some day my child will chill out a bit and not run around like a crazy person 24/7 and chub up a bit? Maybe? Dear God please?!?!

@Mrs. Blue: I would definitely look around if you feel like you're not being supported by your pediatrician! I'm seriously obsessed with ours. He handles all my crazy mama questions with such patience and understanding!

@autumnlove: That is so sweet that she was thinking about you guys like that!

@MamaMoose: High five to you and you're ped! Shed that guilt and be happy that you and DD are happy. :) My doc never said much of anything about her low weight and slow gain until she took a huge jump (from 3rd to 25th in 6 months for weight) and was just happy that she'd chubbed out a little finally.

@Mrs. Blue: Switch pediatricians!! The Baby Dudes are obviously thriving and I don't think it's weird they're waking up once a night to eat! They're active!!

ETA: Then again, maybe my ped is crazy and Xander's really falling behind and she just keeps sugar-coating it! I have no idea!!!

Yay!!! So glad to hear that your pediatrician was supportive and validated what is going on!!! That must've been such a relief to know that it makes SENSE you need to continue feeding her in the middle of the night!!

I LOVE my pediatrician. She is sooooooooooo supportive and is always telling me what a good job I'm doing! I worry about Xander because he's in a lower percentile for weight too, but she just keeps telling me what a great job I'm doing and how good Xander looks. It always makes me feel so much better as a parent!

That's so nice! I wish our ped would tell us that. Ours always tells us we need to do more CIO even though they're only 8 months old, still very low on the growth chart, and usually only wake up once between 7 and 6:30.

My 12 month old still wakes up once a night every night to eat. I have half heartedly tried night weaning her by sending my husband in to her, going in myself but not feeding her, and trying to just slowly shorten the length of the feeding. Nothing works. If I don't give her a full feeding she is hysterical. I have just accepted it. EVERYONE in our lives is giving us such a hard time about this. The advice on how to "fix it" ranges from mildly annoying to downright maddening. So when we had her one year appointment on Friday I told her pediatrician that she's still nursing at night and I'm just totally failing at weaning her (I was almost apologetic in my delivery). His response surprised me so much!! He basically told me my child is so small (15th percentile) and so BUSY BUSY BUSY (aka burning so many calories) that it's simply unrealistic for me to expect her to go 12 hours straight without eating and that for her to sleep 12 hours (6:30-6:30 most nights) with one wake up to eat is pretty darn good and I should just keep on doing what I'm doing. It was SUCH a relief to hear him validate our decision to "give in" to her need to eat during the night.

Has your pediatrican ever pleasantly surprised you? Or unpleasantly?
