Our office doesn't but we have never had to actually wait in the waiting room. We always check in and then are taken back to an exam room. I've actually never seen anyone waiting in the waiting area.

The ped we are going to interview has separate rooms for sick/well. It sounds great in theory. Curious at to how it works in practice.

Yes, separate rooms for well kids and sick kids. They also have separate entrances entirely. We toured one pediatrician that had separate waiting rooms but you still had to go through the sick room waiting area to get to the well room waiting area.

There is a "well infant" waiting room, but I'm assuming when they pass the infant stage, they have to sit in the same room as the sick kids. I'm at least grateful for the infant room.

They also set aside specific blocks of time for sick appointments -- late morning and late afternoon -- so there would be minimal times though where there are sick and well kids in the waiting room at the same time.

Yes, two separate waiting rooms and two entrances. I am very overprotective of our LO, I think because he is a preemie and if he gets sick it could mean another trip to the hospital. And after having him in the hospital for 10 days, I don't want to be separated form him again.

I usually keep lo in her car seat I usually dont see any kids that look extremely sick. But I also worry when I see them playing with all the toys. I will have to be the mean mom that doesnt let my LO play with their toys when she is older. I cant even touch the magazines in doctors offices, so germy! except when I had my Gestational diabetes test and I got so bored, but i drowned my hands in sanitizer afterwards

There's an area for well 0-3 month old babies and then there is a general holding area. I had our daughter in there a week ago for reflux and there was this sick girl that kept leaning over her, trying to touch her! I almost lost it on her Mom.

Nope. Our old one did but I switched to a different place and they do not.

Our new place said that we could wait in the car and they would call us to come in when a room opens up if we were really concerned. The wait has never been long, though, and there are usually no other kids there so it hasn't been a problem. I like how our new place is small, the wait times are short and the care is more personalized. Our old one was a larger practice with so many people in the waiting room all the time. I'm sure there were more germs there even though they had separate waiting areas.

I will say that our pedi's office also does not have any toys--they say that's how germs most frequently spread among kids, so as long as there's no sick toddler sneezing over my newborn, I'm not too concerned about them being in the same room.

One big waiting room. They do ask that if you kid has a fever that you wait outside in the hallway. My Mom was with me when we brought her in at 5 days old and she couldn't believe there wasn't a separate waiting area for newborns. They tell you to keep your tiny babies away from the world outside, but then make you sit in a waiting room full of sick kids? Doesn't make much sense!

i am so glad they do. i just took my baby yesterday at 3 weeks and the sick waiting room was full of sick, hacking kids. even though LO was covered in his car seat, I wouldn't have wanted him to be around that...not to mention we waited for 2 hours, so I would not have been happy having to wait around that for so long.

This is one of the questions that I found on the internet to ask my pediatricians office. We ended up choosing her anyway but she doesnt have a seperate waiting area for sick kids.
I just wondered how common this is and would this be a deal breaker for you?
