We always check in and then are taken back to an exam room. They also have separate entrances entirely. I am very overprotective of our LO, I think because he is a preemie and if he gets sick it could mean another trip to the hospital. But I also worry when I see them playing with all the toys. I will have to be the mean mom that doesnt let my LO play with their toys when she is older. Our old one did but I switched to a different place and they do not. </p> <p>Our new place said that we could wait in the car and they would call us to come in when a room opens up if we were really concerned. The wait has never been long, though, and there are usually no other kids there so it hasn't been a problem. I like how our new place is small, the wait times are short and the care is more personalized. Our old one was a larger practice with so many people in the waiting room all the time. They do ask that if you kid has a fever that you wait outside in the hallway. My Mom was with me when we brought her in at 5 days old and she couldn't believe there wasn't a separate waiting area for newborns. They tell you to keep your tiny babies away from the world outside, but then make you sit in a waiting room full of sick kids?
