@BakerBee: haha I did that the other day when we ran out of dogfood and it was too late to go out..my dog got a luxury meal of leftover ground beef from taco night and some ritz crackers :)

My dog begs so much. It drives me INSANE. It's mostly my fault because I would give in to her as a puppy, but still. She doesn't make a sound, she just sits hella close to me or stares me in the face. It annoys the bejeebers out of me

We had two cats growing up, and we started off leaving dry food out for them all day. The fatty one would just eat all the food before we got home, we didn't even realize that my cat was hardly getting anything! So she was constantly begging us for food, but we didn't realize she was actually hungry - so sad! So then we had to monitor their food morning and night, and fatty ended up begging us for more food.

Eventually fatty went away (we think someone stole her! :crying: ), and we were able to leave my cat's food out all day and she monitored herself just fine, which was glorious!

Owning a Golden means I always have a hungry dog.

He would beg constantly if we let him, we are pretty careful with his weight, but also conscious of when his activity level has been upped, so try to make sure we up what he eats. He will harass us when he's legit hungry (not just begging), and while it's funny, we definitely can't handle it and always ensure he gets more food.

My BIL's cat was doing this, meowing all through the night to be fed, so they bought some auto-feeder thing that dispenses his daily allotment of food evenly over the course of 24 hours. It worked for them (but I guess that won't work with wet food...)

My dog just begs for people food, but I created that monster myself, so I can't get mad at him for it. He knows the words "ice cream" thanks to DH :silly:

@ValentineMommy: YES!! Ugh I can't stand it. Especially because he always vomits on the dog bed and if we're not there to immediately clean it up, both dogs get it on their fur and they both immediately need baths. Ugh. the other day it was greenish yellow so I looked it up (it's usually white and clear) and saw that people suggested feeding them smaller amounts throughout the day. That has helped... I think... (cue next vomit session, I'm sure)

Yes! It was horrible! Our dog is overweight and would drive us nuts with her constant begging at all hours of the night. We ended up talking to our vet about it and she put her on a diet that is supposed to shift her metabolism. She's only been on it a week and a half but already her begging has gone down a lot. Hopefully she starts losing weight on it too!

Yes, my dog! Spaniels are notorious for being extremely food-motivated so we have to be careful with her. We limit her portions at mealtime (people who don't get it think we're cruel, but they've never seen an obese spaniel) and feed her pieces of her kibble as rewards. So actually she does get to eat all day long without gaining weight.

One of our dogs is so bad for this! She's 8 and it just started around 6 months ago. She wakes us up crying at 5am every day because she wants breakfast, then she cries while I'm getting ready for work. Whenever we're home during the day she starts crying at around 1:30pm for dinner (we feed them at 4).

YES. Our cat also starts howling for food around 5am. Or if she's in the room with us, she starts licking my hands/face. And she continues to meow even after I put food in her bowl. I'm like, "Dude, I JUST fed you!"

Yes, we often have to tell guests that we do in fact feed them, despite their begging. We've tried everything - feeding twice a day, increasing feeding amounts, decreasing feeding amount, etc. Our rescue has this adorable little habit of clanking her dog food bowl around in the stand whenever guests are around (or if she's particularly hungry and we are within a 15 minute time frame of her usual eating time). I think she thinks that if she's noisy enough that we will break - usually my husband yells for her to stop and that we don't negotiate with terrorists.

ETA a picture - ours is iron like this so she can make some noise with it.

I type all this with the shame over my head that this morning we thought we had dog food in the garage and found out we were out, so they both had 2 peanut butter sandwiches for breakfast.

We trained our dogs not to beg for food, but I'm not sure how you could do that with a cat. We do feed ours at meal time so while we are eating they are as well. Maybe that would help?

Our cat is driving us crazy. She is constantly begging for food, will wake us up in the early morning (5am this morning), will meow loudly in front of the kids' rooms... She's chubby so we can't give her more food.
