They do arrange some kind of craft for the birthday celebrant, but I'm not even sure if they do it on the day of or they wait until there's a group celebrating roughly in the same month or so. It's different from where I was raised, but I totally respect it.</p> <p>People seem to be overly concerned about equal treatment here - not all parents have the time/can afford to hand out bags. They provide a simple store bought cake (so they can control ingredients/food hygiene), have a little party and give the child a small gift. There were no restrictions except cupcakes must be mini cupcakes. As a mom of the classmates I wish the treats were healthier. As the mom of the birthday kid I like the simplicity of store bought cupcakes. They can't contain peanuts, but I also ask if there are any allergies in the class. DS1 has egg and tree nut allergies, so I always appreciate if someone else has another allergy to be aware of. They also do a few parties on holidays and ask parents to contribute special food, like they did a Halloween party and a Valentine's party with (healthy-ish) chips and snacks that parents provided.
