My husband is not a bottomless pit, he really is deliberate about what he is eating.

For snacks, what about single serve yogurt cups?

Not since his diabetes diagnosis. He's a big snacker, so we just don't keep snacky stuff in the house, so our only options are the healthy ones (that he knows about... I may have a hidden stash in an undisclosed location)!

@Mrs. Taco: I know, what IS that? lol. He refused to ever eat breakfast before me. I did get him to usually eat SOMETHING now… but usually just a cliff bar or a piece of fruit on his drive in. Even when we are home he rarely eats breakfast. I'm forever offering to make him food-- eggs, pancakes, whatever he wants, but nope!

@bpcmarj: OMG. The protein powder. It's insanity. He still has a tub he just opened & I was finalizing my amazon subscribe & save order for the month, it had two of the 2lb jugs & 12 protein bars & he was telling me I needed to add more to the order! DUDE, eats some friggin eggs & put down the shaker! His brain is being destroyed by all the heavy metals in the powder. Does your husband eat a meal during the night?? I've often felt like between the cat who needed to be fed every couple hours through the night & his meds starting at 4am & mr bird eating his middle of the night meal- I may be waking up for more feedings than those with a typical baby, which is crazy!

@Mae: I'm pretty sure he eats purely out if boredom. He's not overweight either...I try to show him how much we spend on groceries a week but it doesn't seem to phase him that we spend twice (or more!) the national average for two people.

My husband is kind of a food camel. He doesn't eat much, if anything for breakfast. And he'll often skip lunch if he gets busy and doesn't have time for it (I try to pack him lunch now so he's more likely to eat, but even still sometimes he says he gets busy and didn't have time to go to the work fridge and get it). But then when he does eat, if it is something he likes, he eats a LOT. I made grilled cheese and tomato soup the other night and he requested 4 sandwiches. I laughed and made him 3, but then only ate half my sandwich and he finished mine. lol. He doesn't always, but he can eat huge quantities of food if he's in the mood.

As for snacks… he certainly CAN house a whole bag of chips in a sitting, but he makes an effort not to. He will usually put things in a bowl so avoids eating too much. If he was like your husband I think I'd probably say something like: I'm buying X for me. Do you want me to buy you your own bag? Or something else? etc.

And my DH is not overweight at all. I think he has a great metabolism + the whole food camel thing… over the course of a week he probably doesn't eat too many more calories than average, its just a lot of nothing-nothing-nothing-binge. :)

I would stop buying them, honestly. You're doing him a favor. If he wants them, he can go to the store himself! Plus, most snacks are a huge waste of money. A bag of chips are $4 and do nothing for you (except make you thirsty, ha!)

DH used to be a big snacker but I have converted him. Sometimes he complains, but he's also content to let me take the reign on food purchases and the like. Can't have your cake and eat it, too, I suppose!

Mr. Bird consumes a ridiculous amount of food, for example at Boston market, he doesn't buy a meal with sides- he gets a whole chicken- for himself. He also burns a ridiculous number of calories 3-4hrs x 5-6 days/wk at the gym, even the amount of calories he burns resting is absurd because of the amount of muscle mass he has. So yes, he consumes a LOT of food, our food costs are a little crazy, but he's healthy & it only bothers me when I get woken up during his 2am feeding frenzy or is his snack was intended to be my lunch.

Yes and its not even snacks. Its like huge portions of meals. He doesn't eat a lot of carbs but wants tons of protein and that is expensive!

Its never just soup and salad for dinner, he would be starving afterwards. The other day I suggested sandwiches for dinner and he went out and bought a box of fried chicken to eat for himself.

He doesn't eat a ton during the day and he really does try to eat healthy but almonds and cheese sticks and celery just doesn't fill him up.
