Thankfully, no! He IS an only child and this was something I made sure I deciphered early on in our dating relationship. There was no way I could have made it work with someone who was a stereotypical "mama's boy."

While he is definitely close to his mom, as I am with her also, the few times she has been borderline overbearing he's been great at relaying our message and our lines with her. :) I know he's definitely been frustrated having to play the in between gopher, but he's done a great job of it.

Thankfully my DH is NOT a mama's boy. Whereas I need to talk to my mom once a day, :T husband rarely calls or talks to his mom.
We live in GA, my parents in CA, his in TX.
I need to see my family a few times a year or I go crazy. Husband can go years without seeing his if he had to. :P

Haha. This post made me laugh. My SO is definitely not a mama's boy. He loves his family, but puts our family first and solicits advice from his parents or my parents later.

Thankfully, no! My husband is NOT a mama's boy. We even went an entire year without seeing his mother, and although I think he missed her, he certainly wasn't trying to initiate contact, so he must not have cared that much.

Sometimes he can get defensive when it comes to his mother, but he's like that with his whole family, and that's probably normal anyway. No one likes to have their family criticized.

My best friend is dating a mama's boy though, and it's terrible! He's always taking his mom's side over hers, always assumes his mom is right over her, always goes to his mom for advice first before her, etc, etc. It drives my friend CRAZY and she can't stand his mother because of it. I hope he eventually grows out of it, but it's been four years and he's still a mama's boy...

I posted once about sons and mothers, and was surprised at the number of comments about the dangers of dating a "mama's boy." Here's how Wikipedia defines it:

"Mother's boy, also mummy's boy or mama's boy, is a term for a man who is excessively attached to his mother at an age[which?] when men are expected to be independent (e.g. live on their own, be economically independent). ... In any case, a mother's boy cannot maintain a healthy partnership with a woman (Carruthers, 1998)."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mother's_boy

Has your SO ever struggled with being a mama's boy? Were you able to overcome it together?
