I do all the research and shortlisting, then will ask his opinion if I'm stuck between two or three options, or if it's looking expensive. i struggle with over-researching so sometimes it's great when he's just like 'that one for sure!'

The only thing I've known him to research is post-miscarriage forum posts to try and figure out what was going on with me!

My DH researches his safety concerns, but that's about it.
I research and buy all the gear, I ask his oppinion on things and he usually doesn't have one.

@ladybee: Same here! I tend to go overboard researching things before buying (especially baby gear), but the only opinion he ever has on anything is the price. Always wonders why we can't just buy the cheaper one....

But of course, he'll spend hours on end researching power tools only to decide he needs the fanciest, most expensive one.

@AggieDaze: my Dh is the same on parenting issues. It really drives me crazy and he's always telling me I never do anything his way! Its especially hard because I have been employing a lot to gentle parenting techniques that work great with my daughter, but he is the exact opposite and wonders why she tantrums way worse for him and gets angry that I don't back him up when he puts her in time out for extended periods. I try to talk to him about it, but I don't really get anywhere. Maddening!

He researches what I ask him. Like car seats there was so many options, so I told him to pick two and then I would decide from there so he did all the research and basically picked what one he thought was best so we got that.

He also researches things like milestones and behaviour stuff sometimes.

I'm the researcher in the relationship so I do all off it. He did express an opinion on the car seat based on what we heard from the (knowledgeable) sales rep so we went with that car seat. Other than that, he's been ok with whatever I wanted to get.

@Mrs. Sunshine: yes!! This was especially true for us with regard to time outs - what we were going to use them for, how we were going to handle them... I bought a book on the subject that our led recommended and DH didn't even read the parts I highlighted for him! He still puts LO in time out for things I wouldn't and does other stuff I wouldn't with regard to timeout.... And honestly timeout is not working for our LO. Maybe we should have done more reading/discussing first!!

@AggieDaze: yeah Dh can be like that with behavior/ parenting things. Luckily we naturally are on the same page with a lot of things, and generally if I feel strongly about something he will go along (like, I wanted to do BLW, I was feeding her most of the time anyway, so he didn't complain). But sleep training was one where he wanted to just "go with it" and I was like, why do you think there are 6000 books and blogs and websites about this!? If it was so easy no one would buy the books!

I do all the research... On everything - gear, discipline, feeding, trouble shooting issues, etc.

It didn't bother me on gear... I mostly went with reviews and if it directly impacted him (like the convertible car seat in his car) then I give him a heads up on what I'm thinking and he approves.

It drives me bonkers on parenting issues like discipline. My husband has no frame of reference for how we should be doing things or what is "normal"... He just goes with what seems right. I, meanwhile, read, research and talk to other moms and our pediatrician about almost every issue so I feel comfortable with how we are handling it. Then, we aren't always on the same page which is annoying, and worse he has no rationale for why he wants to do time out a specific way, or why he is concerned about the latest round of spit up. In an ideal world, we'd each research the big issues And then discuss and form a united front.

In the end, the Motorola I wanted went on sale so I gave him until the day before the sale ended to research and find an iPhone monitor at a similar price...deadline came and went so he shrugged and told me to just get the Motorola :) I'm very happy with it!

I should say for the most part, I appreciate having free reign. When I said we needed an UB vista, and found the best deal, he never complained about the price, just trusted me. For the convertible car seat I narrowed it down to a few and we went and tested them out together at BBB. It's just the stupid monitors that are driving me crazy, and they are expensive so I don't want to end up with another crappy one. And I don't feel like doing to research! If he can spend as much time on reddit as he does, he can pick out a few monitors for me to look at.

But glad to hear it's not totally unique.

@Cherrybee: my BIL is just like your DH. The returned so many gifts because they were "unnecessary" only to go back and rebuy them anyway. Drove my sister crazy.
