Yep happens a lot (with three toddlers there is usually one a night but its not always the same boy). We rub their backs and tell them to go back to sleep but do not sleep next to them. We have told them that mommy and daddy have to sleep in our own bed. With three toddler beds there is not a lot of room to sleep on the floor. I have slept on the look in their once because I was just to tired. Then when my infant woke up I just brought her in to sleep on the floor with me. It was not a good night.

Yes... since he's still in a crib, he calls out for us and we hear him on the monitor. We talk to him over the monitor and tell him to lay back down, which works if he's still actually asleep. If he's not, he'll keep crying, at which point one of us will go in. Usually we can just talk to him and tuck him back in. Sometimes we'll take a trip to the potty, sometimes we'll give him a sip of water. If it's really bad then I'll take him out and hold him while sitting in the glider in his room. I keep asking him if he's ready to be tucked back in. He'll say no until he's ready, then I tuck him back in and leave.

I know my parents did this with me, eventually I grew out of it. We did this with our eldest and he's 8 and hasn't needed us to do it since he was about 5. The youngest still occasionally likes it when someone sits with him while he falls asleep. I'm sure he'll grow out of it too.

DD did this for a long time. She still does it periodically. It's usually when she has to get up to pee in the middle of the night and she wakes up and realizes she is all alone upstairs. DH usually goes up and lies down on her trundle bed and they may sleep like that for the rest of the night, or if he's able, he will get up and come back downstairs. It's not ideal at all, but I don't know how else to handle it!

Charlie's been waking up in the middle of the night, which is rare for him. He'll leave his room and walk over to the top of the stairs and call downstairs for me to come up and sleep next to him in his toddler bed.

So far it's only happened twice and I've been sooo tired that I've just gone along with it. But I don't think that's a healthy precedent, so I'm looking into alternatives.
