My LO just turned 3, and napping is touch and go here. Thankfully, she has been the type of kid who will NOT get out of bed unless mom or dad is there...so we always try to enforce nap time. That being said, she doesn't always sleep, but she always stays in bed for a couple of hours.

Lo is only 15 1/2 months but she loved her naps. The other day it was a half hour before nap time but she seemed very tired so I asked if she wanted me to read her a book or if she wanted to take her nap. Usually when I ask if she wants me to read her a book she'll go get me one and sit on my lap. But this time she went and crawled over to her crib. Poor thing was exhausted! So I put her down for her nap early.

My LO is 2, and naps were rough to get started a month ago! It got easier when I realized that although LO looked a little tired at the (previous) midday nap time, that wasn't really the time that LO wanted to sleep. We're all a bit happier now that I've given up on the idea that nap is at noon--it's now at 1:30, 2 or 2:30. Maybe it's just a schedule change? My sleep approach is more hands-off and go-with-the-flow than some parents could deal with because of my flexible schedule--we didn't sleep train and I spend what sometimes feels like a lot of time getting LO to sleep (I have timed it and its usually no more than about 5-15 min.). I say that because it's a totally different ball game if you need naps to occur at a particular time.

@Oceanis723: yup, DD gave up her nap before 2 as well. Nothing really worked except driving her around for naps but that doesn't work anymore either so I've just given up. On most days, she's fine without a nap.

Yes my boys gave up their naps before they turned two. We would fight for hours trying to get them to take a nap. Finally I started just letting them take a quiet time after lunch. It involved screen time so it's not for everyone. But I would turn the lights in the house off and bring their blankets out. I would turn on a movie and hope that they fell asleep. It worked for a while but now at three they rarely fall asleep.

I hear ya. We went through a phase where DD wouldn't go down.. We ended up having to lie down next to her or sit until she fell asleep, and say things like "close your eyes right now!" I was never really happy with the method but it was a means to an end.

It's been so hard to get Charlie down for naps lately.

I know he's not dropping the nap yet, because when he goes down (as he almost always does) he sleeps for hours and hours. It's just that he doesn't want to go down...

Does anyone else struggle with this? What do you do?
