R is 16.5 months and has many small stuffed animals in her bed. I think the total is 8-9. Plus her green blanket and one to two blankies. She plays with them in and out of her crib.

Can you move her crib off the wall you all share? Holy smokes I'd be so p'ed off if DH's alarm was waking up DS!

@SugarplumsMom: lol! my brother had his "friends" or his "team" - I think 3 or 4 HUGE stuffed animals, and a throw pillow (yes, seriously) that had to go everywhere, or else.

LO has a board book (only a small one) and her doll in her crib. If she wakes earlier then normal in the morning then sometimes she will look at her book/play with her doll until she's ready to fall asleep again, so it's worthwhile to try!

@sorrycharlie: oh my gosh just wanted to say my DH snoozes his alarm numerous times too and it drives me bonkers! He shuts it off quickly and doesn't wake LO but I dislike continuing snoozing when I still want to sleep longer!

My LO is too young to have anything that would entertain her in the crib. My mom said she always had books or catalogues in the crib which would entertain me!

@sorrycharlie: yep. Board books are great. I don't have to worry about her ripping them up and she just flips through them. :) She has a new thing she likes to do now, when I go in to get her, she likes to show me everything in her crib. She will pick up each item individually and show them to me.

@bushelandapeck: ooooh! she has the fisher price rainforest soother thing. I took it out when she was learning to cruise because she kept falling and wacking herself off of it (even though it was at the top of the rail!). she plays with it just "loose" in her pnp while I shower. maybe I'll try that!! I didn't even think of putting it back in there.

LO is 15 mos and has a couple of stuffed animals, one book and a small plush toy car. He also has an aquarium musical mobile that attaches to the side of his crib and he turns it on when he first wakes up, and sometimes when he's trying to fall asleep. I only recently put the book and car in there and I have seen him playing with them on the monitor so I think it's helping keep him occupied for a few minutes some mornings.

@Honeybee: DD loves to read! She's only 13 months but will sit and go through her entire shelf "reading" each book. I thought about sticking some in there, but wasn't sure if - okay, paranoid mother coming out, feel free to laugh - with it being so dark in the morning (well, the 4:30 morning) if she would hurt her eyes trying to read? lol!

I keep about 5 stuffed animals in the crib with my nearly 16 mo old. When he wakes up, he definitely "talks" to them and plays with them. I have snuck into the room when he has them all set up and he's picking them up one by one and talking to them. So cute

Our dogs sometimes wake DD up in the morning, too. She has books and a million stuffed animals in her bed to play with, though. We don't allow toys, but soft animals, blankets, books, and other quiet things are ok.

He's 14 months and he has his lovey and a couple of small stuffed animals. If he wakes up on his own, the toys help, but if he is woken up by noise, no toy can soothe or distract him.

@yellowbird: @hilsy85: I just texted him suggesting I try setting an alarm and he said he woke up on his own at 4 this morning and turned his alarm off - that it didn't even go off. Which makes sense actually because I never heard it. So I don't know if she's just used to that time, or if she hears him and the dog go by her room? The dog makes a freaking racket going down our (wooden) stairs.

We don't have anything in A's crib except pacis and a small lovey. We play loud white noise and don't share a wall though, so it's not an issue. Can your DH not turn down his alarm and get up the first time? That would annoy me!
