@katsupgirl: Not really. The room was a bit messier since some of the toys spilled over onto the floor. So he would sometimes grab something that was near the box, but definitely wouldn't go hunting through it looking for anything.

@Kimo: Yeah, I always tell family not to give us toys. I feel like we don't even have *that* many, and most were gifted anyway.

My DS has never seemed that interested in toys. He'll be 3 in September but the only toys that he ever gets down on his own and plays with for more than 5 minutes are his blocks. Otherwise he'd rather read or go play outside. Drives me bonkers sometimes because we have so many toys that have been untouched for months... we're doing a "no-gift" birthday party because of this reason!

My daughter sounds the same as your LO. She likes to dance around and just hang out with me most of the time.

C's interest wanes and waxes. We culled his toys down too so it isn't overwhelming. Maybe try putting away some of the toys for a month at a time and switching them around at intervals.

No toddler yet but I wanted to try the low shelving for my LO. Did he try to get his toys out when they were in the bin?

This past week I finally repurposed a bookshelf to serve as a Montessori-style toy storage for DS, who is 2.5 (DS goes to a Montessori preschool and I know he plays with the toys there). All of his toys are now visible and accessible and within easy reach whereas before they were just jumbled in a giant bin. However, he does not really play with them or even take them off the shelf to explore. He seems content to just dance around the house, look at books or do other activities, but shows no real interest in his toys. Anyone else's toddler uninterested in their own toys? I think it would be nice if he would occupy himself for 10 minutes with his toys once in awhile.
