We are working this out right now actually. Playing around with what she eats and so far when she has things with the dyes she is MEAN and naughty, screams for over an hour, hits etc. When she has none at all she is much better, normal toddler behavior but not acting like a monster.

LO1 reacts to red dye and throws up if he has had too much. It's rare for him to eat foods with dyes in them so his body isn't used to it.

Definitely try a dye-free medicine. I know of a couple people who are allergic to red dyes, so it's not unheard of!

We give DS dye free medicines, but I react poorly to the Red 40 dye. Benadryl hypes me up as opposed to make me sleepy. Google "Red 40 Dye Reaction" and/or "Red 40 Dye Hyper."

I think it's hard to say in this case. It may have been the combination of being in pain and being over tired. And then just that she just felt better enough to sleep well last night. I've never noticed a problem with E when he has food dyes.

Mine do not react to dyes but I prefer the dye free meds. I usually buy the Target brand.

Recently my almost 3 year old DD had an ear infection, so we gave her antibiotics and children's Tylenol each night to help her sleep.

Every night since starting the medicine she has been an absolute lunatic throughout the night - waking up MANY times screaming her head off or crying inconsolably, and then being super mean / yelling / crying like crazy when we try to go in and soothe her.

Last night I didn't give her any Tylenol since she seems to feeling better, and she slept through the entire night without a peep.

Anyone think her craziness could be related to the red dye in the Tylenol? Do your kids react to food dyes?

ETA - The first night she had the ear infection she was up a lot but crying, but because of the pain...and she was easily soothed with a quick hug and would go back to sleep.
