My immediate team is having an offsite this week. 6 hours of strategy and planning for next 6 months, 2 hours of community service work, and a barbecue from 6-8 pm. I wish I could say I was looking forward to it, but that's an awful lot of time with the same 6 people. :silly: @DillonLion: I am curious about your job! What type of department do you work in? Sounds like our jobs are somewhat similar. I work in "internal communications." That also includes internal event planning. We are a nonprofit so there isn't really money for that. Every once in a while (like maybe once or twice a year!) my whole "unit" will plan in advance to go out to lunch together (but we all pay our own way). We do have a Christmas party which used to be a catered lunch (like Olive Garden or something) at our office, but this past year to cut costs, they had it at 2 p.m. and just had heavy hors d'oeuvres... and a "dessert contest"! (Which basically means, you employees make the desserts. LOL) Then they do a raffle ticket thingy where you can win little prizes and they hand out awards for "years of service". It's pretty sad. BUT then they usually close the office at 4 and we can leave a little early. And of course, people bring in goodies to share pretty regularly - the standard donuts, muffins, etc. I have to say, it's fine with me. I am there to work and do the best I can, but I would be REALLY resentful if I had to spend my "off time" at a work event! It's casual day, we buy everyone lunch (usually either pizza or chinese, but sometimes we go out) and then for the last hour we all play video games against each other. I missed it because I was too busy. Our smaller team had a social event in May (lunch, drinks and ping pong at a ping pong night club). I went, but it's not really my thing. Happy hours once a month or so, we're gone for ice cream, lunches, special treats brought in (cupcakes, etc.). My office is constantly hosting lunches, happy hours, parties etc. They are also involved in a ton of community events like parades. Things like holiday parties, movie afternoon, boss pays for lunch, etc.? We have those once in awhile, usually when we have completed a big milestone. We just had a BBQ in the park last week to celebrate our last release and it was really fun to get out in the sun on a random afternoon.
