I really think you can tell a lot about your kid's sleeping habits ahead of time. My LO has always been a good sleeper with pretty good naps and I think he'll nap until kinder.

Eta: bedtime is between 7:30 and 8 with wake up at 7-7:30 - naps have never affected night sleep, even at 3.

I cut naps out with my DD as soon as I could so she'd go to bed at a normal time. I make her have a bit of quiet time each day. Could be a quiet activity like colouring, even a bit of screen time so I can veg. Dd is 3.5 and my ds is 1.5 months - miss "sleeping when the baby sleeps" but there's tons of great things that come with a 3.5 age gap.

I voted no because most days she doesn't, but some days she falls asleep on the bus ride home from daycare, and some days where she had trouble sleeping at night, I allow her to have a nap during the day to get her ack on scheduke for the night. When she purposely naps during the day she ends up staying awake way past bedtime, which is why we took it away in the first place.

My 3.5 yo stopped napping at home A LONG time ago. When I was pregnant with DD2 it was rough. There was no "rest time" for me except during screen time! :P

But, to give you hope, my sisters kids all nap. They are 7, 5, and 3.5. They go to bed much later though, like 9:30 sometimes. I'd prefer a 7:30 / 8 bedtime and no nap, personally!

Nope and not for a long time. He gave it up a few months before 3. My son is 3 years, 7 months and has taken 4 at home naps in the past year. All of which was when he was very, very, sick. There are many benefits to him having been older when DS2 was born (they are 2.5 years apart, exactly), but naps or quiet time were not one of them!

He'll nap in the car occasionally if we are on a road trip.

@daniellemybelle: DD will push back her bedtime after a late nap, and pushing her nap back so late was her first sign of getting ready to drop her nap. She has high sleep needs, and does much better in longer sleep at night than forcing a nap!

She will be just shy of 4 when LO3 is born, not counting on any joint naps at all!

@HabesBabe: How did I miss this!?! Haha! Thanks!

That is so awesome that she is such a good napper still! I hope and pray!

@iheartleopardprint: Even though LO is a great napper, she can go until 2pm or even later some days before she gets visibly tired. I try to get her down by 1 but even if she takes a late nap, thankfully she will still go to bed at 8!

@erinpye: You are my hero! LO has always had very high sleep needs - that is part of why she was such a fussy baby!

Sorry to say it, but no, not for a long time. She goes to bed around 7:30/8, and is up by 6 AM, occasionally 6:30 AM, no nap. She's always had lower sleep needs though. I know plenty of kids who definitely still nap at 3.5.

Only every other day, if that. And when she does want one it is like 4pm, and not a time I want her to sleep as it affects bedtime. DS was the same, he is 5 and hasn't napped in years!

This might be helpful  Char is exactly 3 1/2 and she naps from 2p to 5p most days. But her naps are always at least an hour and a half. For bedtime, she sleeps from 9p to about 7:30a.

If our TTC plans stay the same and we are fortunate to get pregnant quickly, we are looking at about a 3.5 year age gap.

The one thing I always think about regarding "starting over" is sleep! I was not in a good place when LO struggled with sleep her first year! (And yes, I know most people don't sleep much with an infant, but she really did struggle. I have PTSD from the nights she woke up every 45 minutes and the days she only napped if I rocked her!) Now - knock on all the wood - she is a great sleeper. She sleeps about 12 hours at night and takes a 2-3 hour nap every day.

Am I crazy for hoping for double naps down the road or am I destined to have LO drop the nap before we have LO #2?
