She didn't get on a consistent schedule until she started daycare at 6 months. She had a "routine" with her nanny from 4-6 months and had no issues transitioning to a new environment/schedule. At that age, it really doesn't matter and they change up their routine on you every time you get used to it anyways!

It's just I was talking to my SAH friend and hearing how she still has a hard time pinning down a schedule, I feel bad for my LO that she won't even have a normal schedule!

@Espion: Hi! I'm still around, at least I've been reading....I got a new job in April that is not as conducive to HB. Also that pesky 16 month old, hahaha. How are you? I've lost touch with most of the June 2013 mamas. I believe you are expecting #2???

Hijack: @Revel: There you is! How you doing, lady?

@snowjewelz: Our 16 month old has no schedule except a rough bedtime. Usually it is 7:30 pm, but we don't bat an eye if it is a little later. He gets the sleep he needs, but we were also blessed with a good night sleeper. (Daytime naps, not so much.) But, he's a mellow guy and we're mellow, un-schedule driven parents. It works for us. (My sister, on the other hand, has her kids on a very tight schedule, but they totally thrive on it. I think every kid/parent is going to be different and what works is what works.)

We've never had a firm daytime schedule for LO, now 16 months. Like your situation she has some daycare, some grandma care, and some days with us. Her naps have always been short and I would say that the lack of schedule might have a small impact, but she's also just not a heavy, long sleeper. We do have a strong bedtime routine and she always sleeps in her crib, but we stI'll have night wakings so I think mostly it is just her personality.

I'm sure your LO will adjust just fine to the routine you will establish. It gets easier after the first few weeks!

For us, I didn't have a clue how to get LO on a schedule! She was in daycare 5 days a week, which i realize is different than your schedule. But she really started to fall into a pattern at that point. She was 11 weeks when she started daycare.

I agree that it depends on the child, but I would try to keep certain things routine, particularly as it pertains to sleep.

Thanks for starting this thread, I'm gonna be in the same boat once I go back to work. We will have a nanny part-time, my husband (who works 3 times a week) will take care of LO on his days off, and I will see her on nights and weekends. I'm just hoping that all three of us will be able to keep a similar routine with the baby but I'm definitely nervous!

@Raindrop: @mrs. tictactoe: Thanks ladies

I was just talking to a SAHM and her LO's schedule and that's when I realized she can never really have let's say an 8pm-8am and who knows what ends up happening during the day at home, at grandma's or at daycare

With just 2 months to go I'm just entering into worry about everything litle thing stage!

When I went back to work, my mom watched Liam one day per week. It wasn't the same as your situation, but those days were always rough because my mom had a hard time getting him to nap and also didn't want to stay home while he napped, so he would barely sleep on the days she watched him. He was fine and it didn't mess his other sleep up, but it was only one day per week, like I said.

I agree with @Raindrop: to not stress about it now.

I think it's up to you and probably your LO. Some parents really love schedules and some will say it's the only way to keep them sane. I don't think you will find that out till you LO comes. :)

I had friends just like me, and our kid... seems easy going so we never had a problem putting him to bed at 7 or 9 or whenever and it was usually fine... sure it was a hassle sometimes but most of the time it worked out and the next time he was back to his routine like nothing happened BUT my friends just wouldn't go out to dinner anymore because they didn't want to ruin the bedtime routine which would make way for a terrible week if the messed one up... aka bad bedtime... bad wake up... bad nap... another bad bedtime... and it would take them a few days to get back on schedule and it was not worth it for them. Totally understandable. We started just seeing them for lunches or brunches. :)

So I guess what I'm saying is that you shouldn't worry about it now. :) Just deal with it when it comes... it's possible this will be a non-issue.

Does/did it affect his/her ability to nap, sleep at night, etc?

I ask b/c I realize LO's weekdays are going to be pretty different once I go back to work. 2 days, either DH or my mom are at home with her. 2 days I drive her to daycare from probably 8:30am-6pm. 1 day a week she needs to leave w/ my husband by 6:30am to go up to my mom's house.

So she goes from having a hopefully consistent schedule the 1st 3 months of her life and then... chaos? Confusion?
