She almost always did it during diaper changes and I was worried for a bit but it wasn't consistent enough for me to bring it up to her dr, and then it went away. Very dramatic, Hollywood style "CPR worked, they just started breathing again" kind of gasp. At like 8-10ish months she'd just inhale really sharply like she couldn't breathe and then crack up. Used to make my heart stop. I was super freaked out by it, but it's just a noise that he figured out he could do. It's like she's trying to whistle or make bird sounds or something, but she purses her lips and sucks in her cheeks and then makes these weird lamaze/hooting/panting sounds... She thinks it's hilarious. It gets my husband every time because he thinks she can't breathe. But I'm 99% sure she just discovered how to make that weird noise and does it when crying hard. I think he was just playing with the different kinds of sounds he could make. It was most common around 14 months. (And I was very vigilant to make sure he wasn't actually having trouble breathing since he's a preemie who was on a ventilator...he wasn't.) I didn't know how else to describe it! For the last few days, E has been making a really weird sound while she is playing or eating. It's like she's gasping in shock or excitement but it sounds really strangled, like she's having some sort of seizure or something!! The first time she did it I was terrified - it's so loud! Did anyone else's LO go through this phase?? It's so strange!
