I attempted easy for awhile, but dd usually wanted to nurse more than that. For what it's worth, she stopped nursing to sleep (usually) on her own around 6 mo, and I missed it! Bedtime was easier then. Try not to be too hard on yourself. Things work out.

We did easy for the first few months and then switched it. Nothing works forever, so I say keep doing it until it doesn't work and then change it up.

My LO also had feeding issues and wouldn't take a bottle awake until she was almost 11 months old (or crap, was it 9 months? I'm starting to forget! Pretty sure it was 11 months), so we alllllllways did some other version: Sleep, Eat (while sleeping), You time, Activity

Honestly, it was never a problem for us in terms of naps. LO was a pretty good napper after I did light nap training at 4ish months. Her naps have been rock solid since.

Night time sleep was another story, but it still sucks sometimes now and she doesn't get fed milk anymore, so it's not related to the eating--it's just sleep issues.

@Meridian: I tried doing EASY but my LO just prefers to sleep on a full stomach. Plus when she eats before she plays she ends up squashing a bunch of her meal back up! She was nursing to sleep a bunch but lately I've just been feeding her before her last diaper change or getting into her zippy so she stays awake and then she puts herself to sleep more often than not now. Though we usually still nurse to sleep at night :)

We did the activity/eat/sleep until about 6 months. Not so much because she would fall asleep eating as because she would only eat if she was tired and in the middle of her nap routine.

But this seems like less of an eating problem and more of a napping problem. You sort of need to decide-- you either want easy naps now (keep doing what your'e doing and let him fall asleep eating) or do you want to deal with learning to sleep without eating now? You could always try to wake him up after eating (like at least for a diaper change) and put him back to sleep to get used to falling asleep some other way. But if he resists that I'm not sure I'd rock the boat right now.

We nursed to sleep until he weaned at 10 months and then he had a bottle before nap and bedtime until we weaned from the bottle at 15 months. We still rocked to sleep whenever he needed it until just recently, it stopped being helpful so we just said no more rocking (DS is 2.5).

Honestly, I say whatever works for you and baby. We never had a problem with that schedule.

@nana87: we had the same sort of schedule of Eat, play, eat, sleep. I know "everyone" says that you shouldn't nurse/ feed to sleep but that's what we did because as desperate first time parents that's what worked LOL she started to stay awake after feedings on her own when she seemed ready to do so. Eventually she dropped all her sleep props (nursing, rocking, everything they tell you not to do) on her own and puts herself to sleep. Just do what works for you your baby will eventually sleep when they are ready like any other developmental milestone!

@gingerbebe: ahh, that's a good idea. My nervousness is that I don't know how to put him down for a nap if he's not drowsy from his bottles! The whole drowsy but awake thing seems tough to master!

We just forced DS to stay awake even if it was a few minutes after eating before we let him sleep. We actually switched to EPing because he was such a sleepy nurser he would pass out after 5 minutes no matter what we did. If he started falling asleep on the bottle we changed his diaper or sang loudly to keep him awake until he finished. Even if he was only awake for 10 minutes after eating, that was fine. For the longest time he could barely be awake for a few minutes after eating before he went down for a nap but then he eventually extended to an hour of waketime (including feeding) and now he's up to 90 minutes.

For the longest time, LO basically did eat, play, eat, sleep; now she usually wants too play but isn't hungry after naps. We still nurse to sleep most of the time though (9 mos), that's not something that I am concerned about

I hear a lot about the EASY schedule (Eat, Activity, Sleep, You), but do any of your LOs do the opposite: Activity, Eat, Sleep? I understand the logic of EASY and not wanting to use the feeding as a sleep prop, but it just doesn't work for us (yet).

LO (13 weeks/8 weeks adjusted) doesn't have much awake time yet, and always falls asleep to his bottle. When I try to eat then play, he passes out. So now I try and give him 20 - 30 mins of playtime before the bottle, so he at least gets some stimulation. Not sure if this will be an issue as he gets older?

Anyone do something similar, and did you eventually have to flip flop the order?
