DS goes to public Kindergarten. His class has a class set of iPads and 5 desktop computers. They also go to the computer lab weekly for a minimum of an hour. Starting in 3rd grade (and going through 12th), all students in our county are issued individual laptops. They have mini-computers for in the classroom, but I don't think they have used them yet. There is also a computer lab, but again, I don't think they've used it yet. I'm all for balance, and I wouldn't mind except they already spend too little time playing outside and too much time learning around here. As an aside, our library system has invested big money into getting an Xbox in every branch. Now all the parents will have to spend their library visit peeling the kids away from that. In the meantime they don't have the money to finish repairs to our local branch that has been closed for a year. Their classroom has a set of 5, and they play math games on it as part of a rotation some mornings. Nothing much or for very long, so I don't mind it. I guess I never thought this before but today I saw a fundraiser hosted by a local teacher who wants iPads for the kids in the Kindergarten class she teaches. Do your Kindergarten kids or will your Kindergarten kids use iPads or tablets in school?
