@Happygal: I have aJeep...Lola is usually in the front seat (so bad I know) but I am breaking that trend with LO's arrival...she will be in the backseat with LO. I'll check out those two companies...thanks!!!

@sslm: Great - this is what I was thinking we needed - something to strap her harness to...I'll check out petsmart next time I buy food!

Thanks for the input everyone!!!

We have two pups a 90 pound mutt and a 20 pound sheltie. The sheltie often hides in the footwell under the carseat (rear facing) because that is a dark tunnel. The big dog sits on the back of the van. In the car the big dog sits at attention next to carseat. We worried he would kick the kid to death but he is more focused in not getting comfy.

Also, the dog and baby are never in the car together unless both DH and I are there. So I'm in the back with the baby and DH is up front with the dog.

We don't have anything! Our dog isn't really that interested in LO when we're in the car. She'll go to the back and sniff around a little and then hop back to the front where she can look out the window. We have a Shitzu FTR.

We have the same system as @sslm. We hook the seatbelt through the loop in the harness. We also did this before baby for safety since he's a little guy. He loves sitting in the back with LO and with the seatbelt, he can get close enough to look but not to touch!

No LO, but our dog has a Snoozer car seat that keeps her contained. She wears a harness that clips onto the seatbelt, too. It might be bulky with the two car seats, but safe!

Huh. I hadn't thought of this! My dog usually sits in his bed in the backseat- I k ow its not the very safest for him but he gets carsick so we do whatever works. I guess I thought I would do the same but on the side if the car seat.

We did ride in bils SUV and he loved being in his bed in the cargo trunk area but we just have a regular car.

We put him in a pop up kennel in the cargo space. He sheds like crazy, so the kennel helps to contain some of that.

We have a harness that he wears for walks and everything, so we put that on him. Then we have this thing that clips into the seatbelt on one side, and his harness on the other. If we make the seatbelt thing as short as it goes he can't get at the baby.

Sorry, I'm not sure what to call the "thing". Lol. We've had it for years, before baby, because it's safer! We bought it at petsmart though, so I'm sure you can ask someone there!

What kind of car do you have? Will the dog be beside your baby, or in the cargo space?

Ruff Rider is a good company, although the harness is kind of a pain for fitting. Kurgo can be used both for the cat and for walking.

So - LO is due in about 4 weeks and I am in the final stages of prepping everything. It recently came to my attention that we need to get something to contain our four legged child while we have our future two legged child in the car. I know there are harnesses and buckles of different kinds to accomplish this...

What do you use to keep your dog secured when traveling in the car with LO?
