Some friends of ours named their dog Luke and I really like it for a boys name. Not sure how DH feels about it tho ... I feel like we get stuck in a frame of reference imagining our baby's first few months, maybe first few years, and we think of it as awkward to have the same name as another kid or, certainly, the same name as a dog. But from your kid's perspective, they're going to have that name for decades and decades! Way longer than anybody will remember that dog or even that other kid. I think it's really a shame to fall back to a second-choice name over something that, more than likely, your kid isn't ever going to be aware of.
