@.twist.: not necessarily. We found our first lump probably 9 months ago. We took her in to have it removed and it was cancerous. Vet said to keep an eye on her for any more tumors. A few months later we found another one. Thankfully that one was just a fatty tumor.

It could very well be nothing. I would Def schedule a vet visit ASAP.

No it doesn't! My dog has lumps (he is 8). The vet says they are fatty deposits and are a sign of old age. It freaked me out when I felt the first one!

My poor lab mix is at least 13 and COVERED in fatty deposits. She's pretty funny looking, but completely health ;) Get them checked out soon for your hubby's piece of mind. Thinking about you all!

Definitely does not mean cancer! Dogs get lumpy. My 9 year old Corgi has a lump on his chest that I had checked out and it is just a fatty tumor, not at all dangerous. When I was a kid we had golden retriever who got BIG tumors but same thing-- just fatty deposits.

Definitely not. My dog has a few lumps all over and after getting the first few checked (ie biopsied), we stopped. None were cancerous and the vet was not concerned as they have all turned out to be cysts. Hope your pup turns out to be okay!

It could be a swollen lymph node, or a fat deposit - only your vet will be able to tell you. I hope it's nothing! Your husband sounds very sweet; I am incredibly attached to my dog, and it gets me teary even thinking about her getting older (she's almost 3). I wish they lived longer lives!

In my experience (my dogs and friends' dogs) 9 times out of 10 it's just a fatty cyst. We always just had them taken off and tested and that's always what they were. I know how scary it can be! xoxo

My parents' springer spaniel was what their vet joked a "fat factory--" she had so many lumpy fatty deposits all over! She even had one lump growing on top of another one. And she lived to be 14.5. Sometimes lumps are nothing.

Nope definitely not. We've found 2 lumps on our dog and he's a big dog as well (85lb lab mix). The first lump we never figured out. They tested the cells from it and we were just told they were aggressive but non cancerous. The second lump we found was on his chest. It ended up being an infection from a stick he got lodged in there from running in the woods! I wouldn't be too concerned yet. I had two posts a month or so back about my dog'a lumps!!

My dog has had lumps before that are just fat deposits. It doesn't necessarily mean cancer. My yellow lab had one in the same spot you mentioned.

We are dealing with this right now! Lump doesn't necessarily mean cancer, but it can. My golden has had several that were just fatty tumors or hematomas. You just need to go to the vet and get it checked out - they will stick a needle in the bump, pull out the fluid, and look at the cells .... Based on what they see they will decide if they need to biopsy.

Hope your pup is just fine!

I've never had a dog, so I have no idea, but BFF's dog & one of my work doggies had lumps (not in that location though) that were no big deal. The vet checked them out, and one was biopsied, but they're both fine. Hope your dog has the same result. <3

Just a question for more experienced bees.

We have a dog who's 11 years old, he's a big dog so his time with us is very limited at this point.

My husband just found a big lump under his right armpit. He had bloodwork done a few months ago and it came back very healthy. Does a lump automatically mean cancer? Could it just be that he's really old and has a funny growth?

My husband is beside himself. This dog is kind of his everything and he's pretty upset. I just want to give him words of comfort. I have no idea how much time we have left with his dog. :/ :(
