Dog walker!
I still feel a lot of guilt, although he is walked at least once a day it's definitely not like it was. I pay a ridiculous amount to have my dog go hiking 1-2x a week and when things are busy he goes more often. The money is always worth my piece of mind 😕 My husband thinks I'm crazy but I always feel like it's not the dogs fault I decided to have kids and work so much lol

Well...I'll make you feel better! We basically don't walk either of our dogs. We have a fenced yard and they get lots of activity there, and when we take them to exercise (1x/wk) it's a very short walk to a close park to fetch. They are both decently leash reactive (older dog has chilled out and would be fine alone but our younger dog still has issues and then amps him up) and now with two kids I really can't commit the level of attention they need to keep everyone safe. That being said, we bring them if we hike and LO1 loves going to dog parks with them, and they come with us in any trips that don't involve an airplane. So they aren't (quite) neglected but walks don't happen. Pre-babies I ran 3x/wk and had our older dog then, so it has been a step down. Now I don't exercise myself either! Ha.

We walk our dog anywhere from 4-6 nights a week. We too have a large backyard and she has access to it all day when we're at work.

We have a medium dog, but we are terrible about taking him on walks since having kids. :( Bad dog parents. For a while we were paying neighbor kids to walk him for $1 a walk which was great but they moved... :(

4 30 minute walks a day. She is spoiled and a very high energy lab Pitt mix. And our apartment isn't fenced in. I bring my 16 month old in the Tula. He loves it!

The best dog walker I ever had was someone in our neighborhood who was a marathon runner and was constantly running/training every single day, so they put out an ad to run with your dog. I used them when my dog was a puppy and super high energy and she would be WORN. OUT. The walker charged $20 per run, but I only had to use the walker like 1-2 a week during periods when I was really busy at work. I might look around to see if there's like a high school student who's like a cross country runner or something who might be interested.

@muffinsmuffins: yes! I have a 2 year old, and when we do go on walks, she always comes with in the stroller, and our walks always include a stop at the playground. Which the dogs love because there's a huge open field that we just let them run in too!

We have a lab mix, about 80 lbs and he gets 2 walks/runs per day every day. We had a dog walker after our son was born 2 yrs ago so we only had to do a short walk in the evening with him but then we couldn't afford it any longer so it's on us now. I definitely find it annoying some days but it's actually been good to get us all out of the house no matter what. Plus DW and I take turns running in the morning with him so then we get our exercise too. We make sure to go pretty much as soon as we get home at night and when we get up in the morning. If I sit down, I will find it annoying to get up again to do it! Of course, neither of us are pregnant so that's a different story but I would definitely think of hiring the dog walker as our dog needs the walks to keep him from bad behaviour and boredom. DS has come with us in the stroller since day one so he looks forward to the walks and a stop at the park too!

@Littlebit7: I think I may look into that, I know there are a lot of neighborhood kids on break now this summer, and our younger dog is amazing on a leash and a great walker!

@MrsBrewer: could you get a dog walker or local kid to do it maybe a few days a week? I feel dogs, especially dogs that need to be active (the heeler), really need the walks or else that's when destructive or otherwise not ideal behavioral issues surface.

Bea is 65 pounds and goes on two 15 minute walks per day. She would prefer to go longer but we just don't have the time. On the weekends, we make sure she gets at least one 60 minute walk each day. She is 11 years old.

@FaithFertility: Well we have 2, and our older bigger dog probably doesn't need the walks, but the younger one (4 years old) probably does. She's a blue heeler mix and very high energy. She has no stopping point and can just go go go for hours! Which is why I'm feeling so guilty...

I wouldn't feel too bad, and you in a way are prepping them a little for life with a new baby, where those walks would come less anyway! Do they seem to really need the walks too? Our big pup before she passed enjoyed walks but didn't "need" them, she was happy running the yard and laying on the porch

For those of you that have dogs (specifically big dogs) how often do you walk them?

I feel awful, we haven't taken our 2 dogs out on a walk for probably 2 weeks.....we used to take them at least 3-4 times a week, or to the dog park. But getting further in my pregnancy, it's just not doable, I just ache all the time and walking sucks. DH has been so busy at work that he's just exhausted by the time he gets home.

Luckily we do have a fenced in back yard, and I will sit out there and throw the tennis ball for them for 30-45 minutes each night....but I feel like they still need to get out of the house/yard......ugh....mom guilt even hits with pets!
