:( Sorry you're going through that. I feel your pain. Dogs can sense stress. When there's a lot of stress going on in the house b/c of the kids or whatever our dog just sits there looking scared or she'll come over to my leg and sit on my foot. She just wants to touch me to feel secure since I've been with her since she was 8 week old (she's 13 now). But she's been this way for a really long time so it's not an age thing for our dog. And when we had our first, well, even before she started peeing on our couch A LOT. So much that I started putting waterproof padding around the cushions so that she wouldn't ruin our $5,000 huge sectional and make our house smell like pee all the time. One time she even peed between the cushions and it seeped all the way down to the carpet below. *Sigh* Drove me insane... But you were right to ask your DH to give your dog a little more attention. It's probably what he needs given the huge change that just went on with the new baby in the house. When we had our second, I made sure to give our dog extra attention and she was SO much better. She stills gets pissed off at me like pooping all over the living room carpet at 3AM and the kind that sticks like gum but I'm sure it's b/c I keep telling her to stop barking at the door during the day time. That's a whole other story. :) Hang in there!

I think dogs rely a lot on routine and stability. Obviously baby has probably altered the norm, so doggy is looking for direction. Dogs are also really sensitive to energy and they pick it up from whatever the situation is even if its not directed at them intentionally. The crying and frustration probably snowballed into everything. Make sure doggie gets plenty of exercise to release energy and has clear boundaries, expectations and schedule if possible. Good luck, an remember this too shall pass!

No great advise but my cat started peeing everywhere and turns out it's a bladder disease. If your dog has any issues I would get him to the vet.

We also have a thunder shirt for one of our dogs. She gets stressed out easily and we put it on her when we have company. It works wonders. They are a little pricey but it's worth a shot (keep the reciept just in case!). We put the thunder shirt on her for a few days right after DS was born.

I don't have any advice, but our dog didn't seem to notice LO much until she was 4-5 weeks old - then she started barking and trying to get to the baby every time the baby cried. Thankfully that has mostly stopped (LO is 4.5 months) but now the dog comes over to lick the baby anytime we are on the floor playing.

Please take him to the vet if it continues! Mine just did this and had a bladder infection. Antibiotics cleared it right up, I'm so glad we investigated instead of trying to discipline him, etc. The thundershirt helps him a lot during storms, too.

I second the idea of a walk. We have two golden retrievers, and their lives have not been the same AT ALL since the day LO came home over a year ago, but anytime something goes wrong or they seem stressed, a walk clears the air and they seem much more content afterward.

Ugh :( The stress may be getting to him. Does he have a Thundershirt? Our dog does, and it helps when he's stressed. Also, was the poop runny-is there a chance he could have gotten into something, or might not be feeling well? Our dog will go in the house if she has a UTI.

Either way, no fun. I think you're handling it well, giving the dog some love. Ours always gets really upset when she goes inside, and calmness seems to be what she needs. Maybe also a short walk to get the rest out of his system and re-establish some normalcy?

LO is 5 weeks old and my dog had been here since the day we brought him home from the hospital. Besides being curious and confused, my dog hasn't reacted to him much.

Well tonight DH was trying to keep LO calm while I took a much needed bathroom break (couldn't hold it!). But LO just wanted to nurse and obviously DH couldn't provide so LO was screaming his head off and poor DH was upset he couldn't make him happy. I could hear our dog running back and forth through the house while I was in the bathroom but I figured he was just being playful because he had been in his crate for a few hours while we were out.

I finally get LO on the boob and calmed down and call the dog to come cuddle with me while I'm nursing, and he jumps on the bed and soon jumps back down and I notice a huge pee spot on the bed!! We get it cleaned up and I go into the baby's room to throw away a diaper and notice poop in the floor. I figure the dog needed to go out (hence the running back and forth in the house. He usually sits in front of the door to let us know and while we were all in the bedroom he was trying to get our attention) and combined with the stress of the baby crying he had some accidents. This dog NEVER has accidents. We can't even get him to use a puppy pad on a rainy day. He will go outside and stand in a monsoon just to avoid going in the house.

DH is super stressed and aggravated at this point and I'm trying to keep him calm. So I send him into the living room to watch a big basketball game he's been looking forward to and tell him to relax and unwind and shut myself in the bedroom to finish taking care of LO for the night. Next thing I hear is him cursing. The dog squatted and peed on his pillow bed in the living room.

The poor thing looks guilty and upset as we were cleaning it up. I'm sure he's stressed and confused. But I can't figure out why all of the sudden he's having accidents after 5 weeks! My theory is DH is kind of the leader of the house and this is the first time he really got upset and stressed this bad and it freaked the dog out. DH continued to be stressed too no matter how much I tried to play it down and keep the air light.

I sent the dog with him to the living room and told him to cuddle and relax with him to help him feel secure and calm just in case that's it. I had a heart to heart with DH and made him feel better. Any ideas or advice? I can't handle MORE pee and poop! My baby makes enough of that!
