My dog hasn't done that in a long time, but for random stretches she would throw that up and only in the morning. I was never concerned and I would just give her a snack before bed as well.

Both of our dogs do this occasionally in the morning before they have had anything to eat. Have you noticed any other symptoms? If your dog isn't eating all his food, it's possible it could be upsetting his stomach.

Our dogs both have wheat allergies and the first sign we had for both was a rash on their belly. Our older dog stopped eating all of his food (we think because he wasn't feeling well after he ate).

I hope your dog feels better soon!

@Warbler: We actually for the most part stopped giving him wet food altogether. It was definitely upsetting his stomach. Every once in awhile he gets cottage cheese mixed into his dry food, but it's more as a treat than anything else or when he won't eat. Some dogs don't tolerate dairy well, but ours does fine with it (he only gets a small teaspoon full).

Our pup did this when he was little and the vet said it was hunger/too long without something in his stomach. We knew he had a fast metabolism so we'd give him his daily amount of food in three meals a day. When he started throwing up the bile at night we increased the food amount by a bit and went to 4 meals, one right before bed. He's never done it since. Hope that's it for you guys!

My dog does this every now and then. Twice today in fact. Once she actually jad blood in it because of straining so I took her to the vets and he said it is because some dogs produce too much bile on an empty stomach and it makes them sick. He prescribes antacids if it starts to affect the dog/owner's lives.

@gingerbebe: Sorry that happened to your pup! Thankfully, my MIL is pretty protective of all the dogs and (much to the dogs' annoyance) doesn't leave them alone long enough to get into things. The joys of having retired in-laws!

@ValentineMommy: Hmm, I wonder if that's part of our problem too. I'll have to see if he feels better/eats better with the Beneful. What kind of wet food do you give him now?

Jack (my dog) seems to be doing better today. I gave him a treat before bed last night and a small one this morning before leaving and he did fine. Yay to no dog vomit in my car! Our vet didn't seem too concerned when we called, just said if it happens again, to bring him in. Thanks again for your suggestions! :)

@Warbler: That's the dry food our dog eats as well! We did find that he wasn't tolerating Cesars wet food as he got older. We stopped giving it to him last year (when he was 6) and he did a lot better.

@gingerbebe: that happened to my dog as well, but there were some drastic and scary behavioural changes that went along with it... Extreme lethargy, trying to go to the bathroom a lot, etc. I think as long as OPs dog is still eating, going to the bathroom and behaving normally, it doesn't point to an obstruction. That would be a worst case scenario, I hope, because it sure wasn't fun to go through!

The only time this happened to my dog, she had a foreign object obstruction in her bowel because she ate the stuffing out of an old comforter and had to have surgery to remove it! She drank lots of water, but was sluggish, didn't eat, and kept wretching up that green bile and I had no idea she ingested the blanket until I took her to the vet. Hopefully she didn't eat something weird!

@Warbler: @ValentineMommy: I was going to recommend Pepcid too! My dog will do this when she hasn't eaten but her stomach is upset (who knows why, but usually from getting people food. She has always had a sensitive stomach). We give her a 10mg Pepcid (she's 70 lbs) and she'll usually eat in a few hours. Good luck! I hope it's nothing!

@Mrs.Panda: He's eating Blue Wilderness grain-free kibble, Beneful prepared meals and Cesar wet food for small dogs. We give him a variety of snacks too: Dentastix, jerky and some treats we get in his BarkBox.

My dog does that in the morning if he's really hungry as well (he's only 8 pounds). Our vet put him on pepcid (a 1/4 of a tablet) for 10 days and it made him better! Or at least, so far it has! Hope your pup feels better!

@Synchronicity: He does eat twice a day, just not as much food as he used to. I think the reason he doesn't want to get up in the morning is because we got him a new more comfortable dog bed. But I could be wrong about that.

@Mrs Green Grass: We have the same food that my inlaws have. My husband thinks he's more of a social eater and prefers to eat with the other dogs. I don't think he's traumatized over there at all. He's sluggish with me in the morning, but as soon as we get to my in law's house he perks right up, eats and plays with the other two dogs.

Hmmmm. The vomit sounds like it's from having an empty stomach, but if he isn't eating normally that could be a symptom of something else entirely, especially since he's not wanting to get up in the morning now. If it keeps up I would probably consider a trip to the vet...

He doesn't eat at our house in the morning. We try, but he doesn't seem interested in the food we put out. Lately, he won't even get out of bed in the morning before we're ready to head out. I take him to my FIL's house every day so he can interact with the other dogs and my FIL feeds him breakfast. Maybe I should give him a little treat before we leave since he will eat those any time?

Four times in the past couple of weeks my 5-year old dog has thrown up a greenish yellow liquid, usually in the morning. One time I wasn't home and my husband described it as white and foamy. I turn to my FIL with all of my dog concerns since he's had 10 dogs (at least!) in his lifetime. He keeps saying that dogs throw up occasionally and it's nothing to be concerned about. If my dog was throwing up food, I would say that he's right, but throwing up bile seems serious. I'm contemplating taking him to the vet after work.

My dog eats twice a day, but I have noticed his appetite has diminished (he only eats half of the wet food we put out for him). He snacks on kibble all day though.

Am I overreacting? Does anyone have any experience with this situation?
