@CarrieLouWho: Ours is a hyper Peekapoo, who thinks she rules the house, she jumps wherever she wants, plops down wherever she feels like (even on someone's head/face/ect.)

I have found that letting her sniff the gear now should help, since it will be old news by the time the baby uses it! She sniffed every angle of the rock n play play last night, but after 10 minute she was over it. I was moving it with my foot and she could careless. I'm going to send a blanket home with baby's scent after she's born so she already knows it, hopefully that will help too!

I agree with @Thehistoryofus that "back up" is huge. we taught our dog that by accident, and if he meanders into the kitchen (where he is not allowed - we usually have a gate, sometimes I leave it down) only "back up" gets him to leave. no, out, lay down all go in one ear and out the other!

not sure why, because no, out and lay down work elsewhere. haha. he's bent on food i guess.

@Thehistoryofus: I wish we would have been better at training her when she was young, she has a lot of bad habits for being not quite 2. We let her get away with a lot! haha

I'm going to subscribe to this :o) We need to get our pretty hyper Springer Spaniel used to life with a newborn. I have a feeling it will be all the gear that's going to mess with them... and later once baby girl starts walking!

@jessiejo17: Back up is such a good command to teach. We use it all the time!

ooh this is SUCH a good idea. we set up the pack and play, swing etc and have let him in the nursery with us but haven't tried using a doll.

my dog is a really good listener for the most part, except when it comes to barking. if you try to correct that, he barks AT you, as though to say - "screw you, try and make me stop."

We had two dogs when we brought our first LO home. I was very nervous. However, the COMPLETELY ignored her! They didn't seem to notice her at all! However, when she started moving, that was a different story. We actually thought we were going to have to find a new home for one of our dogs because he would growl at her! But, he calmed down and now she's his best friend (because of all the food she drops!). Though I didn't try to get the dogs ready for her, I was surprised at how little they were interested in her when she was a newborn. Good luck!

Well last night we started "Doggie Bootcamp" for our high maintenance/spoiled pup. I have one of my niece's dolls that is pretty life like in size and look and rubbed some baby lotion on it. I put the doll in the swing and turned it on, brought out the rock n play so she was used to that being in the living room, and the big test was a blanket on the floor with the doll laying on it and teaching her to "back up" and "be gentle." Overall it went pretty good, we still need to work on the "back up" command she just wanted to lay next to it and have us rub her belly...sigh.

Anyone else try to prepare pup for baby, any tips?
