My 5 year old really loves this (link below - folding castle), and plays with it like a house - she uses it with ponies, Shopkins, and calico critters as well. We have a big plain Hape/Ryan’s Room dollhouse with all the furniture; that one has been claimed by the three year old.

One thought to help with budget - can you get the house and just a few pieces of furniture now, and add to it over time?

The magnolia one at target looks so much better than the one we have. We got it for Dd last year at 2.5 and it’s the biggest piece of junk! Furniture all fell apart and ao did the people. I think it’s the one of the kid Kraft ones we got off amazon.

There was a great thread a while back with tons of great recommendations. I'll see if I can find it. It made me switch from my original plan of Kidkraft So Chic to the smaller and more simpler Hape All seasons.

I realized I didn't want something as massive as the Kidkraft in my house (plus as a kid what I loved about dollhouse were how miniature everything was). I also decided after that thread that I wanted wooden pieces and the ability to purchase add-on accessories in the future. I got a great deal on the Hape , $130 Canadian furnished. I'm really excited for my girls to see it Christmas morning!

@Foodnerd81: wow that looks so much like the hape one! : oh that’s interesting! I’ll keep that in mind. I don’t really care about the colors, our house is pretty much a ridiculous mash of colors and junk!

@mrsbubbletea: we have a Melissa and Doug folding dollhouse and it’s perfect for small houses. But it’s pink and purple which isn’t the most neutral colors! I’ve seen a natural wood color one, maybe a barn or a castle or something.

I think we are getting this one for my 4 year old. It looks pretty similar to the hape one, which a friend had and she liked. It’s not as beautiful as some but I think she will play with it more. And it’s $90 now but I think i saw t for less.

I hate myself for it but I went for a pottery barn one. All the other ones, including kid kraft which I had hoped would come through for me, were just so unattractive. I don’t understand why it’s so difficult/expensive to get something PLAIN. Today is my daughter’s birthday and we gave her an American Girl doll. So Santa is bringing her the plain white PBK doll house that fits 18 inch dolls. And of course all the damn furniture is priced separately. But I just knew it would drive me nuts to look at a crazy colorful giant doll house.

ETA: we wanted one to fit barbies and AG dolls, there are definitely more options for a smaller house like the super cute target one posted up thread!

I really want the hape one but can’t justify it since we have a tiny house, too many toys, and I don’t even know if my son would play with it (lol). It’s so cute and I love hape toys!

my almost 3 year old is getting this one from her grandparents for christmas. I think it meets all your criteria except it's $129, but if you use a redcard it's 5% off which gets you right around $120

We’re looking for a dollhouse that’s not huge, not too plasticy, includes furniture and is priced under $120. I’ve found a couple that might possibly work, like the KidKraft cottage (and I love the Pottery Barn ones, but who can afford those?!). Any ideas? Thank you and happy holidays!
