@kindredjoy: oh, it has to be a certain temp? I can see that. If I was having a singleton, I would definitely consider a water birth.

Yeah, giving birth in sterile or clean salt water might be okay but the ocean? Yeah, not so sure about that.

@blackbird: Ah, yeah. True. I think my nephew came out with the sac still intact so they broke the sac afterwards. Yeah, I have no idea if this mom with the dolphin assisted birth will be standing on the ocean floor or floating or supported by something.

I thought Dolphins tended to be particularly agressive toward pregnant women? Regardless this sounds like a horrible idea but I'm totally interested to hear the outcome. Hope it works out for the baby's sake!

But the water is supposed to be a certain temperature and clean, which the ocean isn't. Not to mention blood + sharks?!

So I love dolphins and think they are amazing animals, but I'm not sure I want to give birth with wild dolphins around. The article says they plan on giving birth in the ocean. Is that safe?... All that salt water for the delivery and the baby? I know salt water is good for preventing infections but is it okay for labor? Do they have to be concerned about sharks since won't there be blood in the water?
Yeah, it's not for me. I am curious to hear an update to see how this goes.

"Research sufficient for us and experience since 1976 has shown that dolphins are able to improve or heal a wide variety of conditions including depression, autism, Down’s syndrome, cerebral palsy, and microscopically. See: http://www.planetpuna.com/dp.htm Underwater births in the Black Sea have been done for some 30 years and have shown that the children born in the water with the dolphins develop 6 months faster over their first six months, have perhaps 150 grams more brain weight and are ambidextrous."
