Also, let them know that if there is ever an "emergency" that you will be happy to take the child on short notice. Having a friend can sometimes help. It's definitely a process and may take a while for her to get the strength to do something about it. Trust me, it can feel scary feeling like you have nowhere to go. :( It stinks, but doing that and offering help to find resources is all you can do. They won't accept what you or anyone has to offer if they aren't ready for it.
