@sandy: Thanks. I'll check the library (they have all the good community resources) and see what groups we have.
@Boogs: I definitely offered our place, and we'll see if they ever take us up on it. We're friends with the couple and it seems like both of them are falling apart and both of them need help.
@bluestriped bee: I am trying-well, I just started trying last night. I will keep trying.
@Thehistoryofus: Good idea! Their kid is really good, too, so I could probably handle him with my LO.

Thanks so much!

I think the biggest thing is making sure the person being abused knows there is a safe place to go when he/she is ready to leave and/or get help.

Also, you could always offer that you could babysit for a night or two to give them a break. Also, let them know that if there is ever an "emergency" that you will be happy to take the child on short notice. They may not be willing to stop/get help, but at least you could get the child away from the situation even just for the moment.

Yeah, I would try to friend her. Having a friend can sometimes help. It's definitely a process and may take a while for her to get the strength to do something about it. Just being there for her is what I would suggest.

Is there a way that you can reach out to the person being abused and somehow help offer them a safe place to go if needed. Trust me, it can feel scary feeling like you have nowhere to go. :( It stinks, but doing that and offering help to find resources is all you can do. They won't accept what you or anyone has to offer if they aren't ready for it. I really hope they can get themselves and their child away from thr toxic situation!

That is a terrible situation...I don't even know what I would do...maybe find some domestic violence group and call them and see what they suggest you do to help...that is so scary...

What can you do for a neighbor and her husband when you know there is abuse going on?

I have called the police and neither filed a report. They have a small child. I'm worried about all of them...

I wrote a story, but I don't want them to stumble on it. Any advice on helping them (even though the story is so generic)?
