@junebugmama: @Mrs. Twine: I'm not the original poster but I bumped this because I am going to try it soon. I just started taking goat's rue too just for good measure!

Goat's rue can work really well for women where the issue is insufficient mammary tissue. I believe that is/was one of my own issues. I also took domperidone and saw a noticeable increase in supply. Feel free to message me if you want any more information on my experience. I have struggled with anxiety and depression in the past, and also tried Reglan. The Reglan didn't help as much with supply as Domperidone, and it also had some mood-related side effects that were unpleasant.

Ok, so your situation is slightly different and I'm surprised that the LC suggested it. (Although she has a better understanding of your unique situation) Most woman who have had a breast reduction would not benefit for dom. You do not have enough glandular tissue which is what's contributing to your lack of supply. Over time your body will actually make a little more and a little more if you continue to pump to increase supply. Dom needs glandular tissue in order to work, from my understandings.

Something that is good to know, is most woman who have had reduction struggle to bf their first babies, but have little or no struggles with subsequent nurslings.

@char54: I take domperidone, and I have no idea if I have prolactin issues. I think that E (who is nearly 4 months) has a posterior tongue and lip tie that cannot be corrected for lack of sufficient medical personnel knowledgeable enough. He has never nursed efficiently, so my supply was tanked from the start. I've seen many LCs, and not one can figure out any other reason for my sucky supply.
So, with that said, I take domperidone and brewer's yeast every day, and that has helped me *maintain* enough supply to allow me to nurse twice (or more if I'm not working) a day and pump about 2-4 ounces. Most would say that my supply is not much, but it's worth it to me to keep whatever miserable supply I have. When I tried not taking it for a few days, my supply tanked significantly. I suspect that if the root cause was a prolactin problem, then it would help a lot more, but as it is, it helps enough.

@Adira: yeah...

I lost my supply at 14w. My doctor REALLY vouched for Domp. but, said that it wouldn't help *me* specifically, because my supply issues has nothing to do with my prolactin levels. For me, it was never a hormonal issue. It was a diet and stress issue.
My son has MSPI, which limited my diet severely, and then he was also very colicky and I literally would not sleep....ever. So, my supply died.

One of the girls in my coffee group was on Domperidrone and it allowed her to EP enough breastmilk to provide half her LO's daily intake. She came off it at six months post partum and completely dried up.

In the meantime are you eating plenty of good calories, drinking lots of water and looking after yourself?

Congrats on the new babe!

I used domperidone for its on-label purpose (GI issues) while I was breastfeeding and it boosted my already good supply, which was weird because I had also heard what @adira posted. Anyway, it's worth a try and totally safe from everything I hear.

According to Kellymom, Domperidone is safe to use but will only help if you have low prolactin levels. Not sure if there's a test for that or if you know if that's your issue or not...

I had a breast reduction a few years ago and while I'm thrilled to have milk at all, my supply is low.

We tried bfing for a week but it ended up with LO starving and in the nicu. I'm exclusively pumping now (about 3 ounces a session) and supplementing with formula as needed and we are both much happier.

The lactation consultant called me today to check up and offered me a prescription of domperidone. I'm a bit wary of the LCs advice after several uneasy situations while we were in the hospital,
but she seemed to really think it would work in boosting my production.

Has anyone else tried domperidone? Did it work for you? Would it work this early in the game (LO is only 10 days) when I'm still trying to establish my supply?
