@Mrs.KMM: I donated to beautiful lengths postpartum after LO1! She took off a foot and it was great!

I always used Locks of Love. I'm sure your hairdresser is likely knowledgeable about where to donate. It's been a while since I did it, but they had to cut off the dead ends first and then measure from there. Something to keep in mind if you are thinking about how short you need to go. I wish I was brave like you since my hair falling out is starting to really annoy me, but I don't look good with short hair.

I've donated to Pantene Beautiful Lengths, after hearing that Locks of Love gets so many donations that a lot of them are just resold or thrown away.
I live in CA and I know there are a couple more local charities here that make wigs. I haven't looked in to it in a while, but might be worth researching a bit to see if the same kind of thing exists in your area.

I've done it regularly for the past 6 years and have donated three braids. I also donated to Pantene Beautiful Lengths. I usually get a big chop every other February. My hair is getting unmanageable so I actually have an appointment next Friday to do another chop. It will probably be close to ten inches this time. Usually it is closer to a foot.

I don't think most places take hair that has been chemically altered (dyed or chemically straightened). I just go to my regular hair sylist. She braids it and puts a small hair tie at both ends and chops it off. I take it home and mail it. Super easy!

The first time I donated to Locks of Love...every other time I've donated to Pantene Beautiful Lengths....they have a shorter min length so I don't have to do quite as drastic of a chop

Has anyone ever donated their hair before? If so, how much did you donate? Which organization did you do it through? Are some organizations better than others?

My hair has gotten super long and postpartum shedding is in full force. It is driving me crazy having so many superlong hairs everywhere! But I figure if my hair is this long and I'm going to cut it off, I might as well donate it to help someone else out in the process. So I'm hoping to learn a little bit more as I have never done this before!
