@Mrs Green Grass: @Mrs.Panda: @Mae: @PurplePeony: blood work done!

She replied to my email saying she'd contact the corporate hqs, which she did, and they called me and got it sorted out, and when I went in it took less than 10 mins total.

Watch after all this, they'll deny me based on something in the bloodwork!

That email would make me not donate to them at all. I donated about 500 oz to human milk 4 human babies on fb and the moms were soooo thankful. One even brought me Godiva chocolate! You can still help moms in need through other avenues. No need for this nonsense.

I'd drop off a case of formula at their office and tell them their tactics do nothing but turn people off from their cause. I don't know of any charity/organization that flat out tells people that they are taking "life-saving" food away from premature infants as a way to drum up support. That email is utter nonsense and should be treated as such. I'd also send that email to the program director; it's out of line.

Dear Guilt Tripper,

Thank you for your recent email. It was so kind of you to inquire about the circumstances that have kept me from completing my donation and offer to help guide me through the rest of the process. I'm sure you can appreciate that, as the mother of a young baby, my time is at a premium; it is always so helpful when people try to make my life a bit easier. As you know, I've tried to complete the bloodwork portion of the process twice already and have been turned away by the lab. I would be available to try again in the afternoon on x, y, or z date. I'm looking forward to your confirmation that everything is arranged for one of those days, as I am eager to donate the milk! Again, thank you for your concern and caring attitude toward your potential donors, it is much appreciated.

Sincerely,
Beaker

I feel more justified since you guys think it's pretty intense too! I just replied saying I'm still having trouble with the labs (and that maybe the 28 other people are too!). Let's see if she offers to raise hell for me.

@MamaBehr: they won't take it for the time I took antibiotics for mastitis, but that was just a week at least. that sucks she made you feel stupid! I wonder if it's the same person...

@Mrs.Panda: it is totally working! But I hate that?

I don't know.. they are asking people for a big, huge favor, so I guess there's always some guilt tripping in donation requests? I think I would just have preferred an email saying, hey there, we notice you haven't sent in the blood work yet, is there anything we can do to facilitate that and make your (lifesaving etc) donation happen?

I tried to donate to them (had almost 400 ounces to give) but they wouldn't take it because I drank the mothers milk tea. She made me feel stupid and bad for having drank that tea (it was a very strangely worded email). I just found a local mom who had a micro-preemie(who was 5 months old at the time) and was looking for milk! In fact, I'm still pumping for her, not much but about 9 ounces every two days.

Ugh, that email! If it were me, I would write back a very kindly worried email expressing how difficult the process of the blood work has been and ask that she facilitate contacting the lab's headquarters. I really don't feel this is your responsibility. Let her know that you're happy to get the blood work done once you know that they'll take your blood the next time you go in. I'd personally err on overly polite - sounds like she may be getting a hard time from her supervisor about the fact that she has so many open donor files and maybe she's unfairly taking out her frustration on you? I'd still try to get the blood work done and donate if it's something you feel passionate about, but I may be biased as I donated to a milk bank :)

Ugh, what a b. I'd probably get the blood work done just to get the process over with so you can donate the milk and feel good about the fact that you ARE doing an awesome thing. But then I might send a snarky email to guilty mcguilterson's boss telling them that they almost lost your donation by 1) making it exceedingly difficult to donate and 2) sending bitchy guilt trippy emails.

@beaker: that IS a guilt tripping email. Honestly, you might point out to her that the 29 files are waiting on blood work because they have made it exceedingly difficult for people to get blood work done.

I donated my BM on human milk for human babies for the same reason! If they want BM, they should really figure out a way to take blood samples in house.

So, I'm in the process of donating to mother's milk bank at austin, but have had trouble finding time to get out of the house to get the blood work done, especially because the first two times I tried the lab turned me away saying I needed to bring the blood vials with me (?!) although MMBA says this isn't true and wants me to contact the lab's corporate headquarters (haven't done that yet).

ANYWAYS they are guilt tripping the crap out of me for not finishing the process yet. I really don't respond well to that typically so part of me just wants to give up and give it to some local mom (when I told my contact that, she said "well, if you know of anyone who would like to give milk to babies who need it to survive, have her contact us.") but I have literally 1000s of ounces, its such a waste to not give it away.

This is the email I got today...

"First, I want to tell you how much we here at the Milk Bank appreciate how far you have come in the donor screening process. We are so much closer to making sure that you are able to share your life-saving milk with our tiny recipients who will thrive and grow from it.
Did you know that one ounce of milk is the equivalent of 3 meals for a baby that has been born premature?
Right now, I have a file drawer full of potential donors, just like you. Potential donors that have turned in their paperwork and whose doctors have signed the forms. Now all we are waiting on is blood test results so that we can approve you and your milk and dispense that life-saving gift to the babies that need it! Right now, I have 29 file folders that are waiting on blood tests (including yours). That means that there are at least 2,900 ounces of milk waiting to be approved. And if 2900 ounces of milk are waiting to be approved, that means that once those potential donors are approved after a blood test, there will be at least 8,700 meals available for our tiny and fragile recipients.
Please help to make sure at least 300 meals (100 ounces) are made available to our tiny recipients by going in for your blood test soon."

Can you guys just tell me to get over myself and find a lab to do the bloodwork?
