my son is the same! The ONLY thing that helps him is the ipad - i down loaded lots of apps and shows and now he is a 'dream'.

Good luck.

E's pretty good in the car now, but one weird thing that used to calm his hysterics was opening his window. Even in the winter. I don't know why but he immediately calmed down. And playing his favorite music.

Of course those probably won't help if it's carsickness. I wonder if there's something you could give him?

@swurlygurl: I can't...its just the two of us on the trip! @Penny Lane: I have the Britax marathon and it has to be reclined a certain way since it is rear facing I can't change the way it reclines.

I am starting to think he gets carsick! I did a little internet research and the pulling of his ears, hysteria on trips longer than 15 minutes or so...points to possible carsickness?

we did a long (7 hour) road trip with a carseat hating LO.

we decided to leave at 4am (which was about the time he was waking for his MOTN feed at that point) so he slept more than half the way there. we kept him in his sleep sack in the car seat so he was still cosy, and kept quiet music going to cover the sounds of the other cars zooming past.

could it be possible he needs the seat laid back/sat up more? I know LO liked his carseat a little more when we started lying it back more?

Would sitting in the backseat next to him help?

That sounds awful - sorry :(

I'm just dreading it!!! By leaving at 6-7a he'll still be sleepy and hopefully can catch his am nap. It sucks too because its a drive through all small towns on a Saturday and most places will be closed. :-(

@matador84: At that age DD was taking two naps (morning and afternoon). Can you time your driving so that it's during his naps? 330 miles is a long drive. You could probably use a nice long lunch break, too.

How old is your son? DD didn't really like car rides until we put her in a convertible. He could be hot, bored, scared (bc he can't see you), or car sick.

DS is such an overall happy baby...I mean SO happy. About 50% of the time in his car seat he HaTES it though and he are going on a 330 mole road trip alone tomorrow. We just ran an errand that took 20 mins round trip and it was absolute hysterics for 20 minutes. I was literally about to lose it because he gets so hysterical he can barely breathe. I'm totally panicking about our road trip tomorrow.

Could there be something wrong? He screams and grabs at his ears and hair when he melts down like this. The other day he had blood running down his ear because he scratched it while having car seat hysteria.

I'm praying I can leave early while he's still asleep, he's usually really happy in the car seat in the morning, and then hope and pray he takes another nap until we get there. Toys don't really entertain him and neither does singing/music/windows. I don't know what to do to get him to chill in the car seat!
