I started doing this around 20 months. She just hopped up and asked for it anyway. A few other things helped us to cut down on frequency - refusing to nurse in public and offering to kiss an ouchie instead of nursing, (this one backfired, as I honestly wasn't expecting her to TOTALLY give up comfort nursing as fast as she did). I also stopped nursing her when she was obviously just hungry and needed to eat. Those things all combined have us cut down to once at wakeup, once for nap, and once for bedtime. 24 months over here.

This is exactly what we started doing around a year. She was eating three good meals plus snacks a day so the nursing was simply a supplement. This eventually lead to weaning but I did get to a point of refusing when she asked (because she would ask and then not really nurse or just play around.) if you're looking to gently move towards weaning this is what worked for us.

Yep. She's 15 months and there are some days she forgets. I want her to forget. Forever. Haha. So done.

This is what we'll start doing when P turns 2. She eats great, but I know there are still lots of nutritional benefits through the second year (and of course beyond if you so choose). When she turns 2 I'll let her decide.

That was about the time we started it. She was getting enough solids and calcium so we weren't worried about nursing for nourishment. Eventually I did have to refuse sometimes but closer to when we were ready to wean.

I'm not looking to wean my 14 month old but thinking I'm going to start practicing "don't offer don't refuse" since he knows how to ask for it and this puts it in his hands 100%. Did any one else practice this? When did you start? What was your experience?
