@MrsRcCar: @Astro Bee: @HabesBabe: oh, thanks. I knew that about the oxygen masks. That's why we plan to buy a third seat when we fly. I thought the separating was done in the security line.

@bluestriped bee: @MrsRcCar: re: separating, I think she means during the flight, not through security. They keep families together through security (we've been allowed to "cut" each time I've flown with a baby).

You can only have one "extra" person in a row due to the oxygen masks, so you should be fine, since you bought an extra seat for the babies to switch off. But for example, if you, your DH, and your MIL had tickets, but both babies were lap babies, they would not let all 5 of you sit in the same row, since there are only 4 oxygen masks (this is if you were sitting in a normal sized plane w/ 3 seats in a row).

@Bluestriped Bee @MrsRCCar: It's because there is only one extra oxygen mask per row or set of seats. You may be okay because you have a seat for one of your littles. It's also the reason why you are only allowed to fly with one infant under 2 if you are travelling alone. I'm not sure if that hold a true if you purchase a seat, though.

@bluestriped bee: last time we traveled we had two lap children. The reason they seperated us was something about the O2 masks. DH took our oldest and kept our little guy.

@Astro Bee: good info and tips! Thank you!

@MrsRcCar: they separated you two? I would keep cool and go with the flow but DH might not. Hopefully his mom would follow him if I got separated.

I've travelled on my own with DS many times and a few with DH, and it's definitely nice to have that extra set of hands - in this case your MIL. As PP have said, it really depends on the agent whether they will allow you to babywear through security. I've been asked to remove him, as well as being waved through. You do have to remove them from the car seats/stroller. They push it through like they do wheelchairs and swab and pat it down on the other side. No need to lift it up to be x-rayed.

For the flight, good call on getting the extra seat. You may want to hold both on take-off and landing. And feed them during ascent/descent to help with the pressure. You will be briefed by the flight attendant to hold them in the burping position during takeoff and landing. Definitely do that, but be ready to switch to feeding if they fuss (indicating ear pain). DS has been on 13 flights so far, including some international ones, so I feel like like an expert. Lol! PM me if you have any further questions.

@bluestriped bee: I've seen lots of people on here talk about babywearing through security, so hopefully you get one of the great TSA agents. The one I had in NOLA - grumpy old guy, I guess ;)

@MamaG: Oh! I was planning on babywearing them through security to prevent them from being fussy. Guess we'll just have to deal with it if it happens.

We had to remove our carseat from our stroller, but were able to have the stroller go through separately. It was swabbed down and I was as well as a result. For some reason I also couldn't babywear through the scanner, they required me to remove her. It was a cluster unfortunately.

@Mrs.Someone: Good to know. In that case, we'll baby wear them before we get to security and just push the stroller with the car seats. Thanks!

Babies need to be out of the car seats through security. I think we put our stroller through with luggage, but it's a tiny umbrella stroller. Didn't bring car seats, so not sure there. Wear babies through security, and you'll just go through the old style machines. Also, try asking to go through the priority line!

I have never really paid attention to what happens to people who fly with a stroller and car seats. Do you have to take the babies out of the car seats when they go through security? Does the stroller need to go in the x-ray machine? Does it need to be folded and put through or can you just wheel it through with the car seats attached and manually searched?

Other info you need to know:
--We bought an extra seat so we will have one twin in the car seat during the flight. The other twin will be held by one of us.
--We will have baby wearing gear... both of us. Just not sure when we will wear the babies. Maybe after getting through security.
--We will gate check the other infant car seat and the double snap and go. I feel better gate checking it over checking it with our luggage.
--Babies do very well sitting in their car seat... when we are moving. Not sure if it will be the same on a plane. We will put the fussier baby in car seat or hold one or both of them if they need to be held. My MIL might be traveling with us so we'll have a third adult.
