@californiadreams: We also got it second hand and love it. :) We don't use it nearly as much as our single, but we do use it on occasion.

@lamariniere: i currently have the UBV and i ordered the ride along board. So i might as well wait and see how DS1 takes to that.

@Boogs: the mountain buggy duet is one i am looking at getting second hand.

thanks for the input everyone. i think i will wait and see. it seems it depends on the kid and my own DS1 has went through phases where he didn't want to be in the stroller and he wanted to walk. But now at exactly 3 years, he always wants to go in the stroller. But i still have 11 weeks before DS2 gets here and it will be in the worst part of winter, so i might as well wait and see.

I will keep looking on the used sites and if i see an amazing deal, i might get it knowing i can sell and get back most of my money, but at this point i don't think i want to make a double stroller a big investment in case it's not worth it.

My kids are 2.5 years apart and a double would've been a waste of $$ for us. We have a Mountain Buggy with a Lascal buggy board and it does the job just fine although I do still carry my 3yo on the Ergo on occasion.

My kid must just be lazy. I have a 3 year gap and he likes the stroller lol. We don't use it too many places because most places I go have shopping carts. But, the days we do more outings we get lots of use out of our double. Fwiw, we have the mountain buggy duet and love it.

We waited until LO2 was born because LO1 was pretty anti-stroller for a while. LO1 was 2 years when LO2 was. born. LO1 was more interested in the stroller once the baby was in one. We ended up getting a Joovy Ultralight Sit and Stand...car seat can strap on and LO1 can stand or be strapped in to a small bench seat. It has worked well for us. Sometimes it's hard to keep LO1 under control while also pushing a stroller, so this serves the purpose well.

What stroller do you currently have? Is a ride on board an option? Mine are 3 years apart and we did the ride on board instead of a double. We live in a city with no car, so the stroller is our car. But my older LO really loves the ride on board and we didn't have any problems when he was kicked out of the stroller.

I would say you don't need it... My DS is 3.5 years old now and we sold ours 0.5 years ago... DS1 would just have to understand he is a big boy now, strollers are for babies...

Our sons are just over 2.5 years apart but ds1 has been pretty over the stroller since after 2. We also live in the burbs and use the stroller for big outings or travel. So we opted not to get one. Hasn't been an issue so far as we had a July babe and headed into the winter season.

@californiadreams: my ten cents is that sometimes, you just need to be able to lock both kids down and breathe. A is much better than she was (in terms of running away etc) and is very capable of walking distances, but sometimes I need to strap her in somewhere. It is hard to pick up a tantrumming toddler while wearing a baby. But equally it is a lot of money to spend.

We didn't need a double with the 3 year age gap. At least we didn't need one for normal walking. I would wear LO2 while pushing LO1 during long walks and outings. LO1 mostly walked after 3.5 though. I only used our regular double maybe 4 times! However, I love running so the double running stroller has been great. We used it until LO1 was 5ish (by that point, he was able to keep up with me on his bike).

Mine will be 3 years apart, and we're thinking one stroller with a stroller board attached. Like this one: http://www.westcoastkids.ca/Britax---Stroller-Board

We just don't think we'll get enough use out of a double stroller to justify the cost. If LO1 gets tired, she can ride the board for a while.

My kids are 2.5 years apart, and I ended up buying two double strollers (not sure why now that I think about it). My oldest is 4.5 years old and still likes to use the stroller. They just have to take turns. When LO2 was a baby, I mainly wore him while LO1 used the stroller. We didn't use the double often. Only on big trips like Disney World and DC. I don't think a double is necessary. I'm just glad that I sold mine and didn't lose any money out of it.

@tinyperson: i have been taking the GO train more often to go downtown though, so that is a tempting option to have the double over the winter....just not sure if it is worth the investment for a few months. i am looking on second hand sites though and if i find an amazing deal, i might go for it so i can sell later and recoup most of my money. i think for sure i won't buy one brand new.

@oliviaoblivia: i am leaning towards waiting out the winter and deciding then. i think i am influenced right now by the difficult time i had with an overtired L yesterday at the ROM and seeing travelgirl1 with her double! but up until yesterday, i was planning to wait and see. I think my L might be also be using the stroller more now because i am encouraging him rather than me carrying or wearing him. And last summer he wanted to walk so much more than go in the stroller, i am not sure what else changed!

@californiadreams: Aah, we use ours outside a lot because of where we live (it's easier to walk most places than to drive and find parking!). In your case, I'd probably opt for no double stroller...

L rarely uses the stroller anymore, I can only remember her using it once in the past two months and we use the stroller all the time.

By summer I think she'll be out of it completely. Our plan is to wear #3 for the first few months.

@tinyperson: the snow is why i use the stroller less in the winter. i don't typically go for walks outside...i am more likely to drive somewhere but then i would put the stroller in the car and use it wherever we go. for example, say i want to go to the science centre for the day with both kids. but i think that would be the main use of it until the weather got better and by then, i may not need one either because L will be older (as for school, i am still considering keeping him part time in junior K rather than full time)

We're not going to bother, but I'll only have 2-3 months of both kids at home before S starts school, and over the summer, we'll be at my parents a lot, and we rarely use the stroller there. It's so hard to know. Plus, in February, the snow might still be around for a month, so it might be nice to load them both in the stroller if you're going outside.

i am undecided how much or for how long i might need (or wish i had) a double stroller. DS1 still uses the stroller a lot and he just turned 3 yo. He also uses it more so now that i am pregnant and can't carry him whenever he wants to be carried. And i do a lot of outings where we are out for the day, so i wouldn't expect him to walk all day.

I've envisioned that with a baby, i will wear the baby a lot and DS1 can still be the primary user of the seat in the stroller for the first while. And i am getting the ride along board....and DS2 is due in February, and i definitely use the stroller less in the winter. But may still use it weekly for all day outings.

so i am trying to figure if i should get a double or try to do without one for the first little while....DS2 will be 3 years and 3 months when his baby brother arrives.
