@NYCaliMama is right about waiting. i wore olive in the beginning and we didn't buy a double stroller until she was around 8 months old. by then we needed a double stroller so badly. we use it every single weekend. you will definitely know what your needs are better when baby arrives.

I would order side by side. Order from amazon and keep the box and original packaging. If the kids and you hate it, send it back for a refund and try the other kind! :)

I don't have personal experience with a double, but I was just thinking about this on the weekend when I was at the mall and the automated door openers only opened 1 side of the door... so I don't know how you'd get through doors if the side by sides are too wide!

@NYCaliMama: Thanks for the advice! I stopped using our Ergo around the 10th week of my pregnancy...I miss that thing!

I think I will wait....DH will be around the first 5 weeks so maybe we can just baby wear or take two strollers (umbrella and stroller frame) when we go out as a family. :-)

i have no real life experience, but heard from several of my mom friends that they loved the in-line, so we got the BJ city select to upgrade when a second comes along...

You might want to wait til after the baby is here for a few months to decide... You could totally get away without a double for the first few months. I did by babywearing #2 a lot. Do you baby wear #1 now? You could do that too while the newborn is in the stroller. i wear my 16 month old on my back when we run errands. This way you can really see what will work for you guys as a family. Plus, new gear also comes out all the time, so I like to wait to see what the absolute latest models are before buying.

But re: tandem vs side by side... I've had both kinds. Tandem was hard to turn and steer the older and heavier the kids got. I have a side by side now, the Mountain Buggy Duet... It's so narrow (24" i think?) that it fits through ALL doorways. It's actually about the same width as some single strollers! It's like one inch wider than my single Bob (since the Bob's wheels stick out to the sides, it's actually pretty wide for a single stroller, moreso than it seems). The City Mini double was our 2nd choice, but at 29" wide, I couldn't imagine pushing it around in crowds. If I had more space, I would've gone for the Bob double because I'm a runner... However, that thing is a behemoth!

I have been thinking about this as well. I am leaning towards the City Mini double though. I have talked to a couple people and they prefer side by side because as their kids got older, they would argue about who got to sit up front to see everything. Plus, I currently have the City Elite stroller and I love it.

I've never thought about this, but after going to Disney Friday night, I saw what a total pain have a side by side double can be. Just maneuvering our single stroller in crowds was ridiculous, but the people who had side by sides were miserable.

We had the combi sport side by side. It fit through most doors but not through clothes racks in stores. We got this one because someone gave it to us so free is always good. My sister had a graco tandem the only problem with it was it gets difficult to steer when the child in front gets heavy. We tried putting big brother in the back to distribute the weight better but he wanted nothing to do with being behind his baby brother.

Also I don't know if you can get an attachment for any stroller to any car seat. We had a combi snap seat and it wouldn't fit in the combi stroller because it was a different model. Just double check before you purchase.

We're going with a tandem/in-line for a couple reasons. (1) Even though I know some will fit through all regular doors, I've seen too many moms looking frustrated while navigating a tandem through crowded store/venue aisles to want to try with a side-by-side. (2). We don't have stairs to navigate, so the weight isn't as big of an issue. Our stroller will probably live in our garage or car trunk so, we won't be doing a lot of lifting. (3). We need one that will fit two infant car seats, so we're pretty limited on choices.

i would have gotten an inline (front/back) stroller, but we have stairs and it would have been too heavy to carry. we have the combi double sport (side by side), and it's actually slim enough to fit through regular doors. the kids also love sitting next to each other, but i've heard some kids fight side by side. it's been great for us with city living because it's so easy to fold, and folds up standing.

if i lived in the suburbs though with lots of space, i might get the city mini double (side by side). it's just so easy to fold even if it is wide. before 2 kids i thought i would def want an inline, but i like the side by side now.

No expierence, but I would avoid a side by side only because I hate not fitting into places. We have the Britax B-ready so we'll just buy the jump seat for our stroller and have the two in there (when we have our second of course)

Have you tried both options for double strollers? Which one worked out better for you? My LO will be 16 months when our new little one is born...not sure which option will be the best for us! We have a Chicco car seat that I want to snap in for the baby...I'm pretty sure I can buy an adapter for any stroller?

I am so afraid I'll buy one and realize it doesn't work for us and buy another....trying to avoid multiple double stroller purchases! :-)
