I had one, and loved her! She was $800, worth every penny! I plan to have one again in August (the doula I had for my first birth is not a birth doula anymore, she runs a birth center, so I will get her partner, who was the back up last time) and it will be cheaper as a repeat client!

I hired a birth doula and will likely not hire one again. She was great and I learned a lot from her. I found her through a birth worker co op and the fee was $850. If I had found her on my own I would have paid $700.

I'll write more in a few.

ETA: I found the process of working with a doula where you and your partner really dive deep into thoughts/ fears/ perceptions about birth really good. We both had a lot of assumptions. She was helpful when things didn't end up going my way- sort of like the friend that hyped up a situation, but at the same time helps you come back to reality. I had HB and didn't rely on her for things I asked or looked up on here, but she was available for all the FTM questions. She also took pics at the hospital and a few weeks after the baby was born. As a birth professional her network for other services was extensive.

I will be delivering my first baby at the end of March. I've been feeling a lot of anxiety around the birth in general and have been getting more and more worried about how my husband is going to be able to be my sole support system in the delivery room. We live a few states away from our close friends and families and it's really just him and me doing this on our own.

It dawned on me today that I should really think about getting a doula for some added emotional support.

If you had a doula can you share your experience? Did you find them to be helpful? Would you use a doula again? How much did you pay?

Any and all comments welcome!

Thanks!
